Is TGTB a good curriculum to teach a child to read???
@melissaisteaching
@melissaisteaching Сағат бұрын
Hey there! We use TGTB starting in 1st grade. All 4 of my kids are already reading by that point (CVC, CVCe, and other sight words). In case you're looking for a few more ideas on reading-heavy instruction this conversation might be helpful: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hahydJRprpzen6M.html OR you could check out what we use to build up to 1st grade during kinder and prek here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJ-ie8dp0qu2mX0.htmlsi=hCQx9ECR3RNE4RBU

Nice tutorial thanks. How come you don't do as individual class item like.... Item: Melissa Class, Qty: 10, Price: 30 Total: 300?
@melissaisteaching
@melissaisteaching 8 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! That would absolutely be the best thing to do! Some of my students have different price packages (ex. with or without the 2.9% Stripe fee, or $25 instead of 30 because they opt to pay for 30 classes at a time instead of 10, etc). If it weren't for the variation, then I'd do that! Are you an online teacher?

Thanks for this, Melissa! I’m taking a break from my English resources shop for now to focus on the crochet teaching, but this will be helpful for later when I return to it. I’m using HubSpot to host as many aspects of my crochet business as possible, and really like it. I tried Payhip for that, and it’s not a good fit for me.

Depending on interest and your parameters, we could go different ways here, BUT here's what we use: Newbery books! Winners/honors... any book on here is worth checking out. I prefer to get the physical book into my kids' hands and then grab the audio book (we use the Libby app which syncs up with our public library card) so they can listen and read at the same time if they want. Here's a list of Newbery books: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newbery_Medal

@@melissaisteaching I'm working on it. My issue is planning too much and not being realistic. I need to figure out a better way to get literature in. Read aloud are very difficult for me to fit in as well.

@@Coffeeandkiddos Totally feel you. At this age, read-alouds are nice, but I've opted to have my 3rd grade kids and up use audio books (we get ours on the Libby app, which is free and connects to our public library card) while they have the physical book in their hands. Gives them an added layer of complexity hearing someone else pronounce the words as well!
