I had to buy a new one for mine but the whole gets completely covered with he parts we put in it and it doesent just go back into place easily. I don't understand whats wrong because we bought the exact same housing for it and put our normal pieces inside and it just covers the hole instantly even if we loosen it up.

does a standard carb cv needle setting comes with shims? or usually its added on? thanks
@LeesEBR2 жыл бұрын
No it does not come with shims. Two #6 brass washers, from a hardware store like Ace, will get you the typical .05" lift that helps a lot.
@pequaboy12102 жыл бұрын
Picked up a 2003 blast 2 weeks ago with only 282 miles. Hard to start. Why would someone shim their needle? Is it not correct from the factory?
@LeesEBR2 жыл бұрын
Manufacturers have to balance performance and emissions. Adding a shim richens the mixture a touch during transition from pilot to main jets when being more aggressive on the throttle. You could instead source another needle (there are several stock profiles) but the shim is cheapest and easiest with the same result.
@pequaboy12102 жыл бұрын
@@LeesEBR Thanks. Appreciate you responding on an 8year old video!!! Fixed my hard start issue. There’s a port for the choke (I think) next to the jets, that was clogged after nearly 20 years of sitting. Starts right up now.

@@pequaboy1210 I still have 4 Buell's, including Rat Blastard referenced in the videos. I'm still active in most of the communities. I think I still have a carb or two around, maybe it's worth making a similar video showing how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble. The general instruction is, "take everything apart and spray out every orifice with carb cleaner but not the rubber parts." I usually use a half-can of cleaner.

When I pulled mine out of the carb, the plunger and spring stayed in the hole. Yours seemed to stay on when you were messing with it. Is mine broke? She hates to start. Once it does it runs perfectly. Thanks.

Yes, yours is broken. It's difficult to start because it's not enriching at all.

Fuck yeah man. Most import part is that beer. Could you answer a question about my 2009 xb12r? Thanks man!
@markblundell94613 жыл бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong but! This enrichener is basicly an electric choke. When the choke is off the rubber seal on the end of the brass plunger shuts off excessive fuel from entering the carb when the motor is hot. If you wind the plunger away from its seal you will be constantly on the metering needle even with a hot motor and therefore running too rich.
@LeesEBR3 жыл бұрын
A choke cuts off airflow forcing a rich condition. This is an enricher since it doesn't affect airflow but instead opens another fuel jet. You can crank the plunger all the way down, it still has enough throw to seal off completely when it warms up.

Hey man my timing light on the ignition module only comes on when the tick mark is rotated 180° away from the hole (I’m just guessing since I can’t see it, obviously) . When the tick is lined up center with the hole, I can’t get the light to come on no matter how much I rotate the ignition module. What can cause this to happen? Do I need to take the rocker cover off and move the pushrods? Bike is not starting at all. It seems to blow a lot of smoke through the airfilter when trying to start.

This video was very helpful. I have been having problems with backfiring and crackling with my 2003 Buell Blast since I purchased it five years ago. Once it warmed up it was fine but the first five minutes it just backfired and crackled. I guess I could’ve taken it to a shop but I am a thrifty person and I always assume I can fix it myself. My problem was the auto-enricher and thanks to this video my Buell Blast runs like a champ. Thank you again. PS. I replaced my boot with a 2” silicone hose purchased from eBay for $4.00. So far so good.

Why does my factory Buell X1 manual tell me to ohm out between the two outermost/outside pins?
@LeesEBR4 жыл бұрын
The Factory X1 manual I have does not outline the testing procedure for the ignition coil. I also do not have an X1 ignition coil. So I cannot answer your question.
@LeesEBR4 жыл бұрын
Nevermind, I found it in the manual, it's not in the electrical section, it's in the Fuel System section. It does not tell you to check the outer pins, the arrows clearly point to an outer pin and the middle pin. You can two primary windings, you check each of them in the same fashion as I did the XB coil in the video.

Thank you, this was just the video i was looking for! It explains perfectly how the auto enricher looks and what you can do with it, and how the diaphragm looks too. i just recently bought an old Kymco Filly so i'm learning to tinker with it. and me and my friend were cleaning the carb (he knows his stuff with motorcycles), but after putting the carb back (adjusted air-fuel by 3.5 turns out) it drives well but won't start for the life of it unless i open like 1/2 throttle (no matter if cold or warm), and when warm it just straight up dies unless i hold the throttle. sometimes it holds high revs in idle and revs wont come down unless i give a bit of gas, or when i pick up the back end and drop it, then revs come down. anyways, i hope to fix it this week, and your video helped me a lot in figuring out things!

Is it the same on mikuni carbs with the auto chokes? The more the plunger covers it the leaner?
@LeesEBR4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I've not worked with Mikuni systems, but that is how the CV-40 auto-enricher works. When it is open, it allows more fuel and as it closes (as the engine supposedly reaches operating temperature), it leans out the mixture to the installed jets' values. I wish I had more experience with Mikuni carbs since they're a popular swap, but all my carb experience has either been 4bbl automotive or CV-40. Other than that, I'm an EFI guy. At this point, I don't have a carb'd engine that I could even put a Mikuni on to learn.

What's the difference between adding a shim and relocating the needle clip?
@LeesEBR4 жыл бұрын
Stock needle doesn't have the clip, so you add the shim. Aftermarket needles generally have a different taper to them, so you adjust the clip up and down to get it to perform how you want. You can shim those as well, if the clip steps are too big.
@acvn-hg9gy4 жыл бұрын
@@LeesEBR ah, thanks! That goos fpr the older model i guess. Models K1 (2000) and onward have other carbs (mikuni bsr34ss instead of bst33ss), which do have the e-ring (source: my heynes shop manual). But thanks for the info! I was a bit confused about the shim usage haha
