I do use hand saws almost exclusively now, but I do not have a good place to store them. My smaller saws such as gents or dovetail saws I store in a tool chest drawer, but for the big saws, they just sit on my bench right now. That's why I'm interested in this video!

Just found your channel and I really like the way you narrated this. Definitely a big thumbs up 👍. BTW, using a handsaw my straight cuts would give you a heart attack from laughing. I swear I can cut a straight line that turns out to be a S curve.

For me the important question is how many times will I do a job? One offs, rent. Three or more jobs probably buy. If I have to produce many parts that all fit, precision tools are a necessity. Your example of hand planing 5' of trim is lovely but when you need 1000' all exactly the same what are you going to choose?

This is also how fast my hands move when i use a hand drill.1

I mean I agree with you. They don’t have power tools in the 200BC era… so what did they use then to make intricate detail carvings? Hand tools… Also, it took them a year to do it… Whereas if they had power tools then, they could have done it in 10 minutes. So there’s that. Power tools don’t make a carpenter better. It makes a carpenter’s job EASIER. You still need skills and even with those hand tools I wouldn’t have the skill, but then again with a power tool I wouldn’t either…

Please let me know what your 'spring loaded clamps' are called. They're the sexiest looking frame clamps I've ever seen! And I'd get myself some if only I knew what to ask for!

5 sec because the thickness of the wood your cutting on hand is not the same so there is not enough pressure energy pressing on your hand saw.

I like hand tools but no one is going to convince me to use a plane (or heaven forbid one of the specialty fillister/router planes) for something like trim/edging or roundovers. Just no reason to

Why is it woodworkers get so much crap for having expensive good tools that makes them feel like they have to do a video like this to prove you don’t need good expensive tools to do something nice? Here’s what I learned: Good tools makes the job EASIER, not EASY. Even with good tools it’s still hard and expensive to do woodworking. You invest in the tools over time doing a lot of HARD work WITHOUT good tools to get there first. Yes you CAN do it without good tools but it WILL be hard work to complete the task and it may not look the greatest at first. If you put in the effort you will have an easier time at woodworking if that’s what you want to do. You cannot simply jump into the best tools and the best equipment from scratch without breaking your bank.

Nice work! I'm glad I'm not the only one that cuts the screws to length on a project. I usually cut them and then the next time I'm at the hardware store I pick up shorter screws. Stay safe and Happy Building!💯😁

Great demo and some awesome customisation. Your videos always give us plenty to think of. When you showed the shelves at the end of the bench I immediately thought of putting those shelves on runners. Could even fit a large shallow drawer. That would make it easier to access more items, cut down the dust and make even better use of that space.

Im not so sure... Try cutting the wood with the same thickness please. Maybe 2inch thick wood an both 2 feet in length to cut

Hey. Nice job looks great. I am new to hand woodworking and love the idea of no screws or nails. My question is from my limited understanding, wont the top of the bench crack being secured with those mortice and tenons like that? Due to wood movement across the grain?
