@@ChanyataFarm Fantastic. I have never actually done this and don't know anyone else who does. Basically, I want the mainline to be a 3/16" line and tee off some laterals. (All the other guys on KZfaq have these skookum electro-fusion setups but I'm small time).
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm Ай бұрын
Our entire setup is 3/16 lines. We have 15-25 taps tied in to each lateral/mainline run. So it's 3/16 drop tubes t'd into 3/16 "mainlines". They way our sugar Bush is situated it was easier for us to run 5 separate home runs than to tie everything together into a traditional larger mainline.

Just seen your video and subscribed! I'm new to chickens, my oldest are 5 weeks old, I have my coop and run ready for them except for bedding, is the deep layer method only pine shavings? Also could you use this in the run also? Our ground stays damp all the time, so I'm trying to think of something that would work in the run, any ideas?
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm Ай бұрын
So yes, the deep bedding is just pine shavings. In the run itself, I use bare wood mulch. Sometimes I’m able to get the chips from a tree service, sometimes I have to buy bags of mulch from the hardware store. This has worked pretty well for us I try to keep at least a few inches of chips in the run I only add chips to the run 1-2 times a year

@ChanyataFarm

Mainly just wood shavings. I might add some straw/hay every so often, but that is only if we happen to have an abundance that needs to get used up. The wood chips do fine on their own

What about aerial predators? Any trouble with solar charger and cloudy weather? Thanks for your video!
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm 2 ай бұрын
Every so often we have aerial predator issues. We usually just put them on lock down for a few days after and that works. As for the solar charger…. I loved the solar charger. Only a handful of times I had to charge it, usually cloudy, snowy weeks over the winter. The entire energizer stopped working about 2 months after it was outside of the warranty. I would have suggested it before then, but o was very unhappy with the lifespan of the unit.

This is genius, i have huge sheets that are about 4 to 6 inches tbick and about 4ft by 6ft long that i want to recycle and do this with. For a shed i built out of pallets . The framing doesn't allow for easy installation so i had thought about shredding it but i really didn't want to do that this way i can cut the sheets thinner and just out them up on the inside of the pallets

I have a homemade setup that im looking to improve. Do you find with this model that your vacuum ends up pulling in some syrup/condensation or is there a way to prevent that?
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm 3 ай бұрын
Condensation yes. Syrup in VERY small amounts. I clean the inside of the vacuum every so often because of this. I’m not sure if small amount of sugar trap in the water vapor/steam? But the inside of the vacuum does become sticky after several uses.

What does the port inside the filter unit look like? My fear would be that the vacuum would suck the syrup too. How much finished syrup would you run through the unit at once ?
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm 4 ай бұрын
There is a 90 degree elbow that turns down toward the bottom of the pot. You DEFINITELY have to be conscious of how much syrup you are putting through the filter, you can over fill and send it in to your vacuum. The capacity for this size pot is just over 3 gallons. With the size of our operation, our draw offs are seldom over two gallons at a time. Hope that helps!

I just subscribed. Love your video your coop is good looking. I have a land but no house there, if I go there once a week with the poultry fence will it be working?
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm 4 ай бұрын
That would be weather dependent. If it is a good sunny week and you have the solar charging unit for you energizer, that would be no issue. If you have 3 cloudy days in a row, chances are your battery would deplete and you would lose a good amount of voltage across your fence.

If I can't eat all my eggs in a reasonable time and want to refrigerate them, must I wash first, or may I wash as I use them?
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm 4 ай бұрын
I would wash them. The way I understand it, the temperature change makes the pores on the shell expand and contract, so if there is bacteria on the shell, and can be drawn through to the inside of the egg.
