This episode was the best of ANY Trek episode from TOS to now.
@Hal09i29 күн бұрын
The best episode of the classic series. Seeing it many times over the years, I did notice when they beam back to the ship there are 7 people... with only 6 transporter pads. I guess one is held in stasis until the pad is clear and then brought in situations like this.

I woulda fired every torpedo onto that twisted portal after getting back to the ship.

Welcome to the Prime Directive, or probably rather Time Directive. There is this one episode with a Time Travelling species or person.

This is the best episode of star trek, and truly classic sci-fi all around. At times I'm excited, at other times teary eyed. Wow, just wow

City on the edge of forever is supreme. Joan Collins never looked better, Spock was superb , McCoy was particularly fantastic. The unlimited possibilities of space and time travel had been completely opened up to them and all that Kirk could say after his loss was “ let’s get the hell out of here”

Very heart-wrenching scene even through his stoicism it's clear Spock was sympathetic
@Primitarian2 ай бұрын
You can't blame the Captain. He said repeatedly, "Stay right there." And what does she do? She moves onto the street, heedless of both his warnings and of the traffic. But what if she had "stayed right there"? That may be the real question. What then? Would Mr. Spock have felt compelled by irrefutable logic to advise the Captain to fix his all-too-helpful advice about the traffic? How? Take her to an alley and deliberately shoot her? Hey, what about this: Instead of shooting her, or even letting her get blindsided by a truck, why not save her, then try to talk her out of pacifism? What would have been wrong with that? Instead of going to the theater to watch Clark Gable, they all have a big discussion about how she needs to get wise about history and avoid trying to make nice with the Nazis. She understands them readily (throughout the episode she seemed remarkably visionary about a future that could involve something like the USS Enterprise), doesn't have to die, history resumes its normal shape, win-win. Mr. Spock, did you really think things through?

If I'm Kirk I get back to the Enterprise and start lobbing photon torpedoes at the Guardian.
@michaelfranklin42762 ай бұрын
Even The Guardian itself seems to almost have "eyes" at the top of its irregular ring. The combination of its smoke curtain during portal display, its voice, and the timely incidental music makes it fascinating to this very day.

But wait! I just thought of a solution. Edith doesn’t have to die! “Edith, you’re coming with us.” She could have started a new life in the future with her new love JTK.

0:16. “If we hurry, we can catch the Clark Gable movie.” Clark Gable actually had played only minor movie roles through 1930. Sister Edith Keeler had told McCoy that the year was 1930. Gable was known as a stage actor in 1930. He began to star in movies beginning in 1931.

Is it me or does it sound like Spock’s line “No Jim!” right before the accident is double tracked …. or am I hearing something else? That’s long been a mystery to me.

They needed to encase that thing in korbamite or something. That thing was dangerous. oh but what about that homeless guy that died with the phaser? They are one phaser short and the homeless guy I guess made no contributions to society that made a differance in the future? offspring? grandkids? food consumption versus supply requirements and timing of cooking that extra serving etc.?

Can you believe ... of the 7 Enterprise crew actors beaming back up, William Shatner is the only one still alive? ... and I'm including the two actors who played the "red shirts" (besides Scotty). Here's hoping you reach 120, William Shatner!

"Landrieu...." Pretty haunting. Gottdang hologram was pretty haunting for a kid watching it for the 1st time. "What does he mean by 'absorbed', Dad? Are they going to eat the Captain?" Then it boiled down to 'find the source of its power and turn it off", a recurring solution in the series (see "The Apple" about a machine called 'Vaal' that Kirk and Spock shut down) .

For all the jokes about Shatner's over-acting, he underplays this scene marvelously. I've watched this for over 50 years, and still tear-up when he utters, "Let's get the hell out of here."

He was perfect for Star Trek. Captain Pike was more techie and would have been good as well but for prime time TV Shatner was the best.

The original Star Trek is the best! I bought the entire series in Blu-ray, the woke Leftists are trying to rewrite everything. Can't trust them to leave this series alone, after all it has a white man as captain. In today's world that is VERBOTEN!

I read Ellison's original script. It was unfilmable as a Star Trek story. He had Enterprise crewmen dealing drugs and other huge violations of Star Trek canon. Gene L. Coon has his fingerprints all over the revised script as he was the best producer TOS ever had. Also, this episode is one of the few where they really stuck to The Prime Directive and left out the happy ending.
