These bands like bmth or elevtric callboy do attract a different crowd to the metal festivals though. More fratboys ironically and the like. (But so did numetal back in the day and those folks were a lot worse) Gatekeeping is bad Id agree but we dont need to stand for everything. Basically we need standards for behavior is what I am saying.

a good video!!! i may not like the title that feels like rage bait, (even though it was answered at the end), but I am glad to hear from people who like scene queen!! I also dislike MILF, I don't like country at all, but 18+ and pink cocaine are my favourite songs so far by her, and it speaks a lot to the style and stuff she's contributing to. Someone also mentioned Ennaria, I love her too. CORPSE as well. I like the artists that put a twist on their music, instead of necessarily one genre. I don't think I'll ever like completely metal music. But it's nice to enjoy sometimes. And I think it's nice. Does that make me a true metal-head, no, but like, it makes me able to diversify my taste, and I feel like that's a good thing.

Most all metal is good, though I admit I was never big on the nu metal thing back in the day but I'm not going to disparage it or any of the artists. Any metal is better than today's country music. And yet, back in the 80s some of the metal bands like Warrant and Roxx Gang out of Florida would incorporate some banjo and southern rock vibes in some of their songs. Heck, I've heard some southern rock bands that were as heavy as many of the metal acts around. It's all good. "To bring good where there once was evil, to bring love where there once was hate, to bring wisdom where there once was ignorance; this is the power of White Witch." Rock on!

I love pop music and I also like metal because of bring me to the horizon and I found scene queen, who songs are very catchy. I also realise her songs are in your face and very dark as well as sexual like 18+, push-up bra and many more.

Personally I enjoy scene queen quite a bit. The juxtaposition is part of the appeal, but she is also exactly what she says on the tin. She's taken metalcore and drunk (specifically Millionaires style) and mashed it together into something great. She's empowering and feminist which is something the original "scene" was the exact opposite of. Wonder why she is so great? Look at the lengthy list of sexual allegations and misogynistic lyrics of mid 2000-2010s "scene" bands. I appreciate you making this video.

As a an outsider who just clicked this out of interest - this music seems hyper obnoxious. I'm not a metal guy anymore but my god this shit is a headache. Metal or not I don't care, she just sounds and looks awful. Gatekeeping about genres is stupid, this is metal music for sure and misogyny is rampant online, but man it's fucking annoying haha. But I haven;t been into the scene since like 2014 so I'm way out of the loop.🤷‍♂ Good video, keep it up.

I've got no problem with this music existing - but it's worth asking what "lane" of music it belongs in. There's an uncanny valley between "Metal with Pop elements" and "Pop with Metal elements" - and we are pretty much crossing into the latter. Also - the type of "Metal" in her music is Metalcore which is already a hybrid genre - and the "heavy parts" are hardcore-esque breakdowns - ie. music from the Punk/Hardcore realm, not the Heavy Metal realm. Again - there is no issue with this existing but the fact that Metal Hammer push this act as well as Sleep Token so much really puts me off Metal Hammer. I don't mind scrolling past music I'm not into but when it gets to the point where it's annoyingly oversaturated with this kind of stuff - I am more inclined to follow other, more "exclusionary" outlets/pages. I think if we called this Metal Pop instead of Pop Metal - there would be a bit more of a tolerance for it. It's a subgenre of Pop music that includes Metalcore elements, that's fair enough. Why don't we embrace that instead?

I recently discovered scene queen. she's killing it! her, babymetal, and poppy are doing the pop metal thing right! It feels very refreshing to do something super different. I'm a music nerd and LOVE metal and hard rock. I love how scene queen is taking advantage of good algorithmic song titles with fun lyrics. metal has taken itself too seriously the last 30 years. this new stuff feels very 80s in spirit of let's have fun and make good music. very refreshing to say the least. this is what music is supposed to be: entertainment and fun! since the late 2000s metal has taken itself waay too seriously and focused on perfection in production and technical skill. while that's necessary, i'd rather have a fun catchy song that is super heavy still (with good meaningful lyrics). Metal started as a performance and theater of the occult. it started about doing shit no one else did. Glad the trend is continuing. Personally my dream was to have boy band pop hooks and vocal style with heavy metal. so far I've only collaborated with singer-songwriters on my metal tracks (to be released soon).

Babymetal, Butcher Babies, Conquer//Divide, and Doll$Boxx walked so Broken By The Scream, Poppy, Not Enough Space, and Scene Queen could RUN. Yes, I actively like all the bands I've mentioned in this comment and others... Okay, I lied, I actually don't like Megadeth. Sorry, Metallica and FUCKING SLAYER were and are better, that's my opinion, nobody has to agree, but they do have to accept it. Anyone who doesn't like that other people have opinions they might disagree with can use a cheese grater as a fleshlight or a dildo; go figure out which one works for you. Gate keeping is fucking dumb, and anyone who does it probably has some weird deep seeded insecurity. Stop being a dick and see a therapist!

When I was in High School - this is going back to the days of like, 2005, 2006 - I remember people asking me if I only pretend to like Slipknot and Bring Me The Horizon to get a girlfriend, or if I just guzzled dick... like, WHAT THE FUCK. I had people tell me that Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth were "baby's first black metal bands for little girls" and that The Black Dahlia Murder was "melodeath for metalcore f*gg*ts who took it up the ass for As I Lay Dying concert tickets" and I really wish this was made up. I quite like the clumsy disjointedness of MILF. She clearly has a good understanding of how to blend different styles so I took it as a deliberate choice. This music video seems to be presented like a nature mockumentary, a tongue in cheek visualization of the pop vs metal discourse, it shows the two styles clashing and by the end the boundaries break down, both crowds merge and do the other's dance, lead by scene queen I think another thing worth mentioning is that being out and singing explicitly about how much you love gay sex as a woman in a country song (a genre which tends to be associated with more conservative leaning audiences, although that's started to change recently which I'm loving) adds another level of holy shit she's putting her whole pussy into pissing off EVERY bigot she possibly can. This is what metal should be doing now. This is what we need.

Had I not listened to scene queen before and decided that the Ke$ha vibes were too much for me, you would have succeeded into making me give them a chance. I am a trans lesbian though and from that perspective it's always nice to see LGBTQ people in heavy music representing the community. I personally prefer things that are more consistently harsh and raw, like Uboa, Ada Rook/Black Dresses, Ragana or similar such bands. My home in alternative music is primarily the result of people understanding the pain that comes with being LGBTQ not necessarily be LGBTQ though. I think your average Deathconsciousness enjoyer knows as much about that pain, as other LGBTQ people do. The most at home I've ever felt in a community was while absolutely weeping at Giles Corey live on Roadburn because everyone there felt that, knew that pain if for different reasons, and Dan Barret is still a cis straight dude last I checked. Anyway I do apreciate some camp, but if it has to be camp give me something like Rat Castle.

Me too! Been a metalhead for over 20 years and I think it's ridiculous how women have had to either look like and sound like men or to fit this virtuous maiden architype (especially in symphonic metal) to be taken seriously. And then Gen Z is like "F that, F all things I 'should do' or 'shouldn't do', F all gender and genre boundaries" and make the most awesome and diverse alternative music I've ever heard.

Babymetal is metal. Xe-None is metal. This is metal. It's not any less different from what most people comfortably call metal than what metal originally was (to the point some people will even nowadays argue that the majority of mainstream 80s metal is rock and not metal, lol). Shit evolves.

Okay I actually listen to some of her songs after watching this video. Whether she's metal or not depends on whether you classify core as metal or not. Most people don't really distinguish them nowadays since punk and metal have been mixing and influencing each other for so long both ways that it's a spectrum with no clear line between them. She's definitely core and heavy enough to be in these murky grey areas that could be or not be classed as metal. BUT THIS IS NOT BECAUSE OF THE POP COMPONENTS TO HET MUSIC. THESE DO NOT AFFECT THE METAL-NESS IF HER MUSIC AT ALL. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF IT AWAY AT ALL. The way she incorporates pop in her metal/core is arguably more raw and aggressive than when bands like Slipknot start singling cute sugary clean vocals choruses after a heavy riff driven stanza. Arguably in case of bands like Slipknot adorable choruses take a lot of the metal-ness from songs like Psychosocial, but nobody will argue they're not metal. Arguing it in her case is even more laughable IMO and is clearly just a matter of prejudice towards the visual aesthetic.

This year bin jousting has been officially embraced by the festival lol. As far as tips this is my general festival tip but if you are planning to make festivals a regular thing invest in a good tent you can use repeatedly rather than buy a cheap tesco tent as the condensation builds up overnight and then when the sun cooks you out of the tent at 7am you burst out of it like ace ventura coming out the back of that rhino. A blackout tent was one of the best buys ive made. Also pack as light as you can without skimping on essentials. Some folk like to glamp but you have to haul all that shit to and from the car park and by monday morning you are tired and not enthusuastic to pack it all up and lug it all back. Also get ear plugs, it often gets overlooked by newcomers but the party dont stop and unless you get blackout drunk the night is not quiet. Even the more laid back camps have a bit of partying, loud snorers and them lucky bastards who get to have loud festival sex.

Like, she definitely knew she was gonna get a lot of hate from metalheads. She might get a few views from pop lovers, but that's probably not really target demographic. Took a lot of guts, she's metal af. Especially exposing the BS misogyny she faced but still advocating sexual freedom. So much respekk from me. As for pop music parts? Electric Callboy is already doing that basically, and doing extremely well. Thanks for this video.
