Man...y'all gotta come to the north. The excitement you guys have about 4 pound river smallies. That's how our 3 pounders fight. When you fish a good river, you'll be shaking for 10 minutes after landing a 6 pound smallie.

What pound leader do you usually use for bass? I just started fly fishing and mostly fish for bass. I have 5/6 and 7/8 wt set ups. I’m not sure if I should use a heavier leader on the 7/8. I usually use 12lb flouro and 6, or 8lb flouro on my 5/6. Each leader is 6’-8’ long with no tibets. Thanks for all the info you put out there! Rob

I have fished this creek numerous times, being 60 years old and having lived in the area all my life. It’s one of the very few streams in WNC where you can catch browns and brook trout in the same stretch of water, often in the same hole. I enjoyed your video.

I'm a local out of Old Fort - what's the stream? I thought maybe the remote part of the Mills...? But aren't native brookies usually at higher elevations? So I am confused lol

Can I ask, what length leaders are you using for these spooky wild NC mountain trout?
@SlabDynasty9 күн бұрын
7 and 1/2 ft
@SlabDynasty9 күн бұрын
We did spook some fish though so longer leaders might work better. We like the shorter leaders for quick, compact roll casts in those little pools

What a great adventure. I have a spot sort of like that in Wisconsin on a very small stream that is always good for at least one nice brown. That was so exciting to see that brown come under that rock to take the streamer. I’ve found micro streamers to be very effective on small streams. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching! We don’t always opt for a jig streamer, but in this case we wish we threw it more. We think we could have caught many more.

These fish were very late post spawn with no visible fry around, probably just males hanging around the bedding area still recovering. No harm in catching those
