I grew tired of these pseudo games for losers that can"t feel anything worthy with real people and lean -fund- towards shallow repetitive mechanics with overloaded "art" because they can't afford a museum. Japan makes the biggest turdcakes in the world and need to be labeled for what it is. Rated J *not a game*.

This is a wonderful analysis. I'd been wondering, from someone who deeply cares, what is it about the remake that fails to resonate. Given I'd never played the original myself this has been hugely informative and really helps me to appreciate that original vision and in a lot of ways feel vicariously disappointed. I'll definitely seek out the original some time for sure.

Hey there, a small question: Did you use the 20th anniversary boxset of AC soundtracks as a frame of reference? Because i'm sad to tell you that it is one of the worst mixing jobs around the industry. They quantized all the tracks from their original versions (For both games and individual OST releases) so that's why you might see the soundtrack heavily compressed and laud af. Also, you should learn to play a bit better before throwing around such heavy statements as "clunky" or "slow" to describe 5th gen of AC. Just a friendly advice.

This is hands down the best video about DMC1 that i've ever seen, and i'm not here trying to putting down other content creator who make video about DMC1, but this is just truly the purest love for this specific game at it's finest, cuz the thing that separates this video to any other DMC1 videos out there for me is the usage of the ost from the game for the entirety of this video, and i never seen such a high appreciation for the ost of DMC1 before from any other channel, not to mention the highly detailed trivia about the making of the game ost's it self and the resident evil influences such as that umbrella logo thing (this is literally the first i know about that fact)... too bad KZfaq is always buried any stuff or videos that i always highly have an interest on and rather showing me the same videos that i've already seen over and over again, it's really sucks, but i really hope you get more subscribers man, cuz this video is really have a high quality

It just bugs me how much they've changed as I have become attached to many of the original's designs. Now that the remake has been out for a while, I know that even the man-slug-scorpion monsters were drastically changed. When I was younger the circumstances of my upbringing had me become like one of these enemies in looks and behavior. It was hard to recover from something like that, but now that their design is so different, all my emotion connected with them are no more. Sad how much the lighting and the fadility can excuse discarding the original game's art style nowadays

Love the video. Lots of appropriate critiques, but one thing I would like to chime in on. While I’m not a developer, I am friends with someone who worked at SIE during the PS3/PS4 days for both Sony Santa Monica, and Bend Studio shortly after. According to him the PS3 architecture really held back games big time memory wise, and that’s why environments tend to be very bare in a lot of games. It’s amazing what devs like Naughty Dog were able to do with TLOU and Uncharted without any major compromise, but Demon’s Souls in particular cut a lot of corners with its environment design simply because of how dark it was in certain sections. They were able to reduce load time and framerate issues by reducing color in scenes like Tower of Latria, and Valley of Defilement/Swamp of Sorrow. Same goes with the clouds, and banners hanging from the castle walls in Boletaria. I know it may sound silly because it’s such a small detail, but FS fit a lot of details already in such a small space, and that takes up a lot of memory. Can only take up so much before it completely compromises the entire games performance, unfortunately. Wanna point out one change I didn’t like at all in the remake. In Tower of Latria instead of yellow cloth/flags hung from the poles everywhere they were changed to red. Seemingly because of what the color signifies, so I’m guessing Bluepoint didn’t make the connection with yellow and the Old Monk’s corruption taking over and how it affected the world around him🤦🏻‍♂️ it’s a small detail, and honestly I don’t REALLY care, but for the FS fans that are passionate about the lore it’s those details that can really get their panties in a bunch lol

Wow man, these are amazing videos. Really good observations and sources for your points, I really need to check out The King in Yellow. I didn't even notice the spiral theme of Latria even though it's quite obvious when pointed out. I'm sure on a subconscious level most people feel it while playing through the levels.

13:00 I am really, really happy that somebody else took notice of these kinds of things. I thought I was the only person who ever thought of ideas like, "Maiden Astrea is giving birth to the babies." Great and informative video. I made a reddit post about the "giving birth" theory a while back, literally 20 days after this video came out, without knowing about it. That's pretty funny. Although nowdays I've been less into the idea, and it's probably not as deep. I'm guessing it's just a reference to actual medieval practices of discarding babies/fetuses. Still, considering what happens later in the series, and how the series philosophically views self-sacrifice, it's not too far-fetched of an idea. I'm unsure.

I think this game did so amazingly well with the character stories outside of the main cast. They all thematically relate to the main story in a way that is subtle and really add weight to the endings even if the player doesn't notice it. So funny that you named yourself gestalt, yeah I bet you got real mixed up with that.

What?? The PC-Engine's soundtrack, particularly in the main table theme, is totally superior to the Mega Drive's. They didn't even get the melodies right for the MD, were missing many awesome additional notes, harmonies, long pitch slides/glissandos, the clear sounds of the bells and lost all the amazing slow delay effects and reverb in the main table theme that was in the PCE version. There's even muted parts in the main table theme, losing the full track that was in the original. However, what's much better in the MD version of the game are the graphics in the additional stages as well as in some re-imagined ones. Not all the graphics are better though. The woman's face that turns into a demon and her transformations, for example, were drawn MUCH better on the PCE. The bottom table/level was also better drawn with finer detail than on the MD. The stage with the 3 skulls was also drawn better on the PCE. In the MD version the skulls had weird, misshapen heads, but not in a good way. The color pallets on the PCE version were better for the main tables and all the lights looked more like the way pinball machine lights look. For the game, the MD version wins (it has so much more than the original), but for the soundtrack, in all the same tracks, the PCE version wins all the way.

The thing is, people can't play the original. It's locked to the PS3, and now that the remake exists, there's basically zero chance the original finds its way to newer consoles or PC. I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to emulate or play the original on old hardware as the only ways to access it.

The theatrical version with the choir as the main driving element is classic and powerful, but I do also appreciate the way the 2024 Atmos mixes the choir in there to blend its emotion with that of the instrumental. It gives it a different feel.
