An important aspect of this interview that takes place at the 12 minute mark when Jerry asks to be included in an upcoming all-star TV special that Hope will be hosting, Bob insinuates that there is no room for Lewis in the lineup because of Jerry's habit of hogging the spotlight from other performers whenever he appears on stage. To prove his point, Hope brings up an incident that occurred in 1952 when Hope and Bing Crosby hosted an Olympics telethon on live TV. Bob suggests that Lewis's unprofessional behavior during the event caused Crosby to flee the stage when Martin and Lewis entered to perform. Despite Jerry's protestations to the contrary, Bob confirms that Crosby had every reason to be concerned about Lewis's penchant for scene-stealing antics. At this point in the video, Bob wisely changes the subject without spelling out the exact details of what Lewis might have done. In fact, Bing left the stage out of concern that Jerry Lewis was going to grab the toupee right off Crosby's head as a means of getting a cheap laugh and upstaging Bing in front of millions of viewers during the live TV broadcast. Crosby never forgot or forgave Lewis for the incident and refused to speak to Jerry ever again. Even more interesting, Bob Hope chose to bring up this embarassing incident while Jerry was hosting the Tonight Show. This strongly suggests that Hope shared Crosby's personal animosity towards Lewis and was only appearing on the show to plug his upcoming TV special.

Lewis thought 3 to 5 percent of young people were garbage in 1970. Clearly hes talking about anti war protesters. How dare him. We now know that war was a terrible mistake and alot of lives wasted.

Always thought that grease look was old fashion to the 50' s or pre hippies 1966. And thought Jerry was too egotistical while Dean the Star. Later found out he was jerk and rapist

Bob said 5% kids were bad. Probably referring to the Viet Nam protestors. The old guard was still in force at that time. It's like looking into a time warp.

Love you Bob. Can you tell us why Jerry left all the kids out of the will and also why you did nothing all while Bing Crosby beat his kids? Isnt it nice we can all act like such great human beings when behind the scenes we re the exact opposite ?

Two self centered comedians. Hope never worked without being paid. Even overseas. All USO shows he was paid for. Lewis was nice only on camera.

I never understood why my friend's mother despised Bob Hope until I was her age. LOL. He seemed to be very braggadocios and obnoxiously competitive with Jerry who was likely looped up on Percocet. Thanks for sharing. Do you have the open?

This is a riot. You have Bob Hope (who cheated on his wife) and Jerry Lewis (who beat his kids and cut them out of his will) lamenting so called "dirty movies," and declaring that only about 5% of American youth are "garbage." And sadly, everybody claps, having been duly educated by these two moral icons.😁

I am 62, so I remember all the classic comedians, saw them on TV a lot as a child. My family watched Jerry's telethons for kids with muscular destrophy. Bob Hope is a classic. I was age 9 during part of 1970, and watched Johnny's show for years, but I don't recall that desk or set. I love Hope's movie Paleface, and always watched his TV specials. Those were the days!
