Hey The World Small Animal Veterinary Association .... Your advice about leaving animals intact is not only reckless but should be illegal in your line of work. Unless your little group of veterinarians wants to adopt all of these animals, you need to be more responsible because this is the worst, absolute worst, advice I have ever heard. You are going to contribute more to the problem than the solution. This makes me sick. Are you so out of touch with reality, society today and the plight of homeless animals, and the animals that have to give birth, and the amount of torture and abuse that these unwanted animals face that you have to post and give some type of advice like this? Do you have any idea what is happening all over the world to unwanted animals? Do you have any idea the capacity shelters are at right now and the amount of euthanasia that has to happen? And you're promoting not fixing an animal? Do you realize the amount of behavior problems that are going to arise because people will listen to this blatantly reckless advice? Stay in your bubble and keep your mouths quiet because you're doing no help to anyone with this advice.

I was told by my vets early on that my Pomeranian has a 'soft palate' which causes his cough. It was not indicated to me that this was a real problem. It was never referred to as BOAS. I've looked into it now because he just became ill on 14th may. Pneumonia most likely caused by inhaling food. I can see now from a number of videos I have watched that BOAS was likely the cause of food inhalation as that fleshy tissue gets in the way of the valve that closes off the windpipe when swallowing. I wish I had known sooner. It's very touch and go for him at the moment. I love how cute my dog is but with hindsight I'd rather he was unattractive and HEALTHY! 😢

It takes a higher footprint to produce insects and plants for protein source and this WEF propaganda of steering us away from REAL meat is unfortunately very blind and bad for our environment. One should look at the whole land use/cattle life cycle and how it creates a much healthier earth. Interesting that they use the word "propaganda." Dogs and cats ate nothing but real food for thousands of years. Commercial wet and dry food has been around for only the last 100 or so years. WSAVA is funded mostly by Hill's, Purina and Mars. Big surprise. Also several pharmaceutical companies. The lead DVM who came up with their guidelines is Lisa Freeman. Propaganda?! WSAVA is literally funded by Big Pet Food. Mars owns Royal Canin and at the same time Orijen. One claims kibble is the best, the latter claims natural, fresh ingredients are important. Big pet food, supposedly dedicated to pets health, and not profits, is pushing branda with directly opposite claims.

After all these horrific things these pet food companies have done for the sake of money (that you glossed over very lightly) it's no wonder people don't trust their pets to them!?! OOOPS we accidentally put a euthanized animals it that pet food. Oops how did melamine get in there???? Please!!!

So, something I am having trouble with: most dog food brands don't live up to WSAVA standards. I use the Pet Nutrition Alliance manufacturer report, and many brands didn't respond, and won't respond if you contact them and ask the questions yourself either. Those that did answer and do meet the standards are incredibly expensive. Some of these have cheaper versions, but those contain wheat and corn, which my dog is allergic to. With so little to choose from, how do we affordably feed dogs with allergies or dietary restrictions?

I still don't understand how a board certified veterinary nutritionist advocates for an ultra processed dry food to be a right food for pets....processed foods are not healthy, that is clear for humans yet for our pets it is? something is terribly wrong in your message here. BARF foods or FRESH foods for that matter will always be a better choice for both humans and pets. If we would slowly decrease the kibble and increase the raw ingredients in our pets food we would adjust the stomach ph to become more acidic, like our wild carnivores and there would be no problem for them to eat pathogenic bacteria ....I've never seen a hyena getting sick or die after eating a decomposed carcass.

As an AKC breeder of merit and lifelong member of FBDCA I have an objection to this biased supposed instructional/educational presentation. I have been in French Bulldogs for 35 years, and while there IS an occasional dog that may need intervention if bred properly, health tested, shown and proven in the ring for generation after generation THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. I have slept with multiple frenchie noses in my ear for 35 years and that would not be possible if what these people are telling you were true. UNFORTUNATELY with the high popularity of this breed, and the advent of people bringing in OTHER breeds to produce bizarre colors/patterns/coats to placate John Q Public's "fashionable" desires have hurt this breed with their dilute ADDITIONAL HEALTH ISSUES that are coming from those unknown OTHER breeds. Well bred, preservationist breeders who first health test the parents, show them to their championship, so they are proven in the ring (you don't see Frenchies limping or gasping for air in the ring) and then after extensive researching the individual animals in the pedigree and then breed HEALTHY TO HEALTHY do not have these issues. OUTCROSSING to unknown additional health issues is not the cure in any way shape or form...RATHER the PROBLEM. I think the English accent of the presenters is a direct reflection of what is happening in Europe and the collective object of making ALL DOGS look exactly the same with long noses and long tails. Sort of reminds me of the "MASTER RACE OBJECTIVE of a bygone era. Humanity was saved from that fate, and WE AS PRESERVATIONIST BREEDERS NEED TO SAVE OUR PRECIOUS BREED from the same fate.

Great talk, thanks! The question remains: so how do I know if its good? They do not list all the essencial ingredients (supposedly if its complete it has all essencial ingredients)? BUT on the package it does not say the digestibility, bioavailablity nor the results of feeding tests.... So in theory this is interesting info but in practise there is no way I can choose when I go into a supermarket.....

What a pity that there isn't a 2-3 minute version that we can use in lectures! Some of the animations and demonstrations are REALLY worthwhile and very useful, but very few people nowadays have a spare 17 minutes, and the people to whom we are lecturing rarely make it past 5 mins. 2-3 mins would also be really useful waiting room fodder.

Has this veterinary community reached out to breeders in national clubs to work together to find the best path forward? It doesn’t seem that was done pre this report or video. This causes reactivity and defensiveness. Let’s work positively together for the life of the dogs.

there's sterile raw pet foods out there like stella and chewys who also also adhere to afco's rules so her thing about it being unbalanced and pathogen heavy isn't true all the time and with ANY food, even kibble/canned, you can get sick from it! people get sick from human food too, not just pet food. also the raw meat in human food is allowed some bacteria because its assumed you're going to cook it, where as pet food is zero because of regulations now. wish she wasn't so anti raw as it's clear to me she's very biased against it because of kibble companies. i don't think she's really researched it herself and just is going from what she was taught by the big pet food companies. just my personal thoughts based on how strongly she feels about it based on the fact she says she doesn't care what you feed your pet but then says raw is dangerous basically. sounds to me like she DOES care and has strong feelings about it but hides/sugar coats it sadly. if you're anti raw, just come out and say it, its ok!

Me gustó esta charla por la profundidad con la que se abordó la información, y que se haya hablado mucho sobre los beneficios de la alimentación fisiológica. Pero no comparto el hecho de afirmar que los productos ultraprocesados sean beneficiosos para perros y gatos, o que no se usen ingredientes de relleno , ya que analizando todas las opciones de UP, de todas las marcas, todas contienen productos de relleno como carbohidratos (incluso hasta 50/60% del total del producto) que no son un ingrediente beneficioso para el organismo de un carnívoro. Perros no han "evolucionado" aliementandose de ultraprocesados. Solamente se han adaptado porque es lo que le dan sus tutores, no tienen opción. Y esa adaptación es lo que ha llevando a que hoy sufran enfermedades que antes no sufrían. Cáncer, diabetes, obesidad. (No se ven carnívoros salvajes obesos). Su esperanza y calidad de vida ha disminuído a raíz de ello. Tal vez en estado salvaje vivan menos por otras razones (por ello se dice que la expectativa de vida ha subido desde que han sido domesticados, pero en comparación ha bajado debido a la alimentación con ultraprocesados). Quienes damos barf, nos asesoramos con veterinarios nutricionistas para formular dietas balanceadas. Obviamente hay riesgos, pero teniendo el mismo cuidado que tenemos quienes manejamos carnes crudas para consumo humano, tenemos éxito. Y los beneficios de una nutrición natural están a la vista en los exámenes de laboratorio de nuestros animales. En su estado de salud.
