Wish we could have seen INSIDE the home, where the LIVING took place…

Frank Lloyd Wright was more than a great designer. He invented the world of the suburbs. The exit to nature that was stopped because of traffic jams, and came back to life thanks to the Internet and working from home. He is still influential.

We luckily stumbled upon this and showed up just as a small tour of 5 started. It was very interesting to learn about the owners and how they lived. It’s too bad the video didn’t showcase the inside. There are a lot of noteworthy details. The docent led tour was 👏🏻👏🏻

Wright used brick, wood and stone and 'warm' tones to create "organic" architecture that integrated with nature. The Bauhaus built with 'cool' concrete, glass and steel to separate architecture from nature.

Am " kind " of stunned by Frank Lloyd Wright's thoughts voiced over and how surreal is their absolute truth as one scans the house before one's eyes . Frank Lloyd Wright escaped a limited trance state . To see this house and hear his thoughts on " advanced " architecture for those ready for it is to be awakened from a deep trance . ❤

A great pity that Wrights sensitivity to place, form, and people hasn't been more influential in modern architecture. His best work had a human warmth and, dare I say, 'love' that is rare in modern buildings.

Flat roofs are a bitch to maintain and leak. I like the look, but the maintenance probably not fun, especially if you live in a wet climate.

They saved the house by moving it off the property, but Wright designed for the very specific location. Even moving the house as a solution is still a disappointing one. Sad that the Gordon descendants didn’t care enough to stipulate in the contract that it couldn’t be torn down. The buyer is not the only foolish one here.

Exactly my thought. We visited there in 2017 and I was taken by the interior spaces. Very livable except for the lack of any windows in the kitchen. The skylight lets in a lot of light but no view. As an amateur chef I would find it claustrophobic.

Yeah this video doesn’t do it justice. I liked the aerial elevations which were like an abstract painting, but they dwell on it too frequently.

More than 9 minutes wasted, yes we know this house, we know ALL of Wright's work, inside out, upside down. But is the interior shown to allow examination of the quality of the reconstruction, the entire reason it was saved in the first place? FAIL.

Beautiful in many ways. Preservation of structure first chore to finish. Refurbished to original state next. Wright’s vision and concept still artistry first. Function, in his mind, simplistic and no one did it better, in simplicity.

FLW fan but face it, we can thank his "genius" for a lot of poured concrete parking structures that are eyesores. I've visited one of his Usonian homes and it's got the most uncomfortable chairs and beds built into it. Nonetheless, when he's good, he's phenomenal!

Its all how its built. Most buildings in most cities have flat roofs. Take a brick and put it in your yard, after a rain does it have a inch of water standing on it?
