Hello, I am a 70 year old German man from Hamburg who has seen very little of his own country. But I know Hamburg like the back of my hand. Thank you for this video and thank you for your beautiful words about my homeland. It gives me a sense of dignity and pride that I have never felt before.

A poor peoples dish is in Germany a Stew, the poorer they are, the less meat is inside. Friday is also a trditional fish day in Germany; at least most canteens also offer fish on Friday, especially in Catholic regions.

Till Reiners on “Falsch, aber lustig” is really good, but more general humor. IMO the funniest non-satirical comedy show on air right now.

Hey Mert, do us a solid and recommend British Cabaretists if there are ones you like (or even better Scottish ones if we can understand them). Some of the things you like about the German ones are actually simmilar to some aspects of British humor. What we score with directness, you guys sometimes match with cutting edge elegance. Maybe there are underrated hidden gems we Germans would like as well

"extra 3" also are famous for their satirical songs. These two are older, but about famous Brits: "Song: Theresa May, die Griff-ins-Klo-Frau | extra 3 | NDR" "Song für Boris Johnson: Brexit Cowboy | extra 3 | NDR" Sorry they don't have English subtitles, but maybe you can use an AI or something. Also, I posted the KZfaq title instead of a link, as links get randomly deleted here.

I just noticed when you said "Extra Drei" it sounded a bit llike "Extra Dry" - that is probably the best possible translation for a show that does dry satire 😁👍 Trump is a grateful victim for satire. Doing satire about him is much easier than trying to take him seriously.

Nope, it means Extra three, and refers to it being shown on the third channel. While Channel 1 and 2 are shown in whole Germany, without cable you get to see only the third programm of your state.

@@mistercomment1622 Long time ago... meanwhile you can watch the so called 3rd programs via stream all over germany. Satellite is/was an option, too. Although extra 3 is produced by NDR usually the episodes are shown in ARD (1. channel) as well.

@@mistercomment1622"exrtra 3" is pun. It plays with the double meaning where 3 literally refers to the "third channel" and at the same time to how it sounds: "extra dry" - which is a good fit for a show from the northern part of Germany, where the people are more "dry" than in any other part of Germany.

It's not recent satire, and not exclusively German either, but have you seen the "Every Second Counts" campaign? A couple of international satire shows banded together when Trump started his "America First" movement, and each of them released a short satirical application along the lines of "Okay, we agree that America should come first, but can <country here> come second?" For Germany, Jan Böhmermann was the one participating in the project, but imo every video among those is absolutely worth watching.

Ante portas is roman latin and means at the (city) gates. The well known phrase is from Cicero and in original "„Hannibal, credo, erat ad portas“ or in short Hannibal ante portas. This was terrible news in ancient Rome and Loriot plays with this by reflecting the father (Pappa) with Hannibal.

Have you watched the show "The Boys" ? Its not german, but its also more or less a satire about Trump and his fanatic followers, especially now in season 4 they made it really clear since many people just didn't get it for whatever reason, or they just love Trump so much, and so they also think Homelander is the good guy 🙄 For Eric Kripke, ‘The Boys’ Was Always About Trumpism As the showrunner grows his darkly comic satire into a franchise - and spoofs a certain trial and presidential election in the new season - he says he’s fine losing the viewers who just figured out his social agenda: “Go watch something else.”

Here would be very fresh recommendation: Johann König (Comedian) was guest at the controversal "politcal cabaret" format "Nuhr im Ersten" (controversial because Dieter Nuhr made some very right-wing comments in his bits). And Johann is nailing the audience who is not recognizing what has happened 🙂 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/obaoZMqV09LbmGQ.html

I still do, but since Covid I've grown VERY selective. A lot of those guys turned a-hole back then and with that I refuse to listen to them. Some I still like a lot, Lisa Fitz, who stood upright, I absolutely respect that lady. Lisa Eckhart, an Austrian artist is just hardcore, when I heard her for the first time I admit, I got a little hyperventilation going on. Took me a while to process her style and now I absolutely adore her!

"Loriot" is probably Germany's best hidden secret when it comes to comedy. At times, his work seems to be something like a German Monty Python, but very (as in VERY) stiff upper lip (as you can see in this clip). Which is why always thought, that his stuff might click with the English. Really great to see it works :)

Being a Dutchy and yet being of German ancestry (since 1752 in The Netherlands) I do recognize this item. Many many true Dutch families turn out to be of German ancestry, whether they like this or not. A fact after all is a fact. See WW2 is never far away in daily life here in The Netherlands, although WW2 already is 80 years ago. For the generation which actually was in WW2, it often was a traumatic experience which gave many people PTSD and besides soldiers many common people as well. The same common people whom were trying to raise a family in this horrific era suffering of PTSD and all and so creating a newly born generation in WW2 or slightly after WW2 being exposed to PTSD parents and a PTSD society. The people growing up in WW2 are called first generation war victim and the children this first generation war victim raised are called second generation war victims (born in the late 40's, in the 50's, the 60's and even the 70's) , since they had to deal with their PTSD parents and PTSD grand parents, and all other people suffering from PTSD ( Family like aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, anybody) since such a grand war will leave a huge impact in any society. These are the consequences decennia after a war people were not in themselves and yet they struggle with the direct or indirect consequences of this war. This is the reason why some people in 2024 still can react strongly negatively to German people, Germany, the German language, but they do prefer German products: household items (kitchen, washing machine, coffee maker, etc.) and of course they prefer to have a German car in front of their door. The duality (originating from PTSD trauma) of rejecting the country, the language and the German people, and yet coveting German products is characteristic. Even today (2024), some young families are not free from PTSD and raise their children with such a duality between rejecting and desiring people and things of German origin, which for example at football matches between The Netherlands and Germany will come to the surface again.

He was wrong about AIDS. The poor Africans, unable to afford expensive drugs, did not die at hundreds of millions. AIDS was very deadly for rich people in New York. They were overdosed. The Africans, not silly, took the American lie to produce cheap medicine and sell them for the price of the market. This is what the Americans did not allow. It was their lie and their profit. Now we can see the same thing with Covid-19 and the vaccination. In poor African countries only 10% could afford to be vaccinated. Sounds like hundred millions of deaths. Not at all! In a state in the North of India they used a medicine against parasites against Covid-19. They knew it for decades, no accident. It was safe very cheap and could be produced in masses. One pill was enough to cure a patient in days. So - why vaccination at all? There is a good explanation, something with NATO and law. I do hope, if Pispers understands the hole thing one day, he will come back to stage and explains the whole thing.
