I rode this a few days ago. We stopped at the same place for lunch. Food is ok but definitely not amazing. Great vibe though. Those trucks are insane and really come at you quick. While 4wds and bikes slow down, trucks give no f’s. I went down the side too and that is definitely not compact dirt. I thought I was going to come off. They’ve really cleaned up the tracks along here. Great for driving but I loved the challenge when it was rougher with pot holes, imperfections and a mix of dirt, rocks, mud and sand. Kept you alert and made it exciting. It’s basically a road now. Plenty of challenging side single runs but they can quickly get you in trouble on an adventure bike. Definitely always stick to the left and really slow down on the corners or it could be good night.

WOW !!! plenty of comments on that one ..... personally I would never ride that fast either in the Watagans nor on Murrays run .... the Watagans has many cyclists, walkers and 4wd 'ers, as well as pedestrians, & Murrays Run animals as well as the logging trucks, unless your video was sped up I am sorry I reckon you were riding to fast for that area ... I have ridden there many times ....never at a great speed ...... it's a great area in which we live ....

Mate, it all depends where the Gortex is in the jacket and if the outer shell is waterproof and if water is getting inside through other means (eg, down the back of your neck). I have a Triumph branded Adv jacket purchased in 2013, the outer shell is waterproof, one day when travelling in Tasmania in 2020 just before the pandemic hit, it bucketed down rain the whole day but I was dry as on the inside. More recently, I purchased a Revit Vertical GTX Jacket (4 seasons), I just had to have a waterproof outer shell (Gortex) and again, it has proved to definitely keep me dry as on the inside. IMO, waterproof removeable inner liners are a waste of effort, time and just aren't up to the task - when it stops raining and you want to remove the inner lining because it's 32 degrees but the outer jacket is soaked, come-on man, it's just BS. On the more budget friendly side, my partner has a Dririder Adv jacket with a removable thermal liner but non-removal waterproof liner and it works perfectly and it's not Gortex. Not sure if being out on the bike for 30 minutes in the rain is a true test of waterproof. From my experiences, you really need to be out in the rain for several hours to determine just how good waterproof the gear truly is, either a jacket of itself or the rain jacket you put over your jacket.
@throttleridingadventures
@throttleridingadventures Ай бұрын
I think the problem with this jacket the outer jacket doesnt repeal water at all it soaks it in ...you can actually feel the water come through the arms not down the neck been riding 40 years and know that this thing isnt worth $950 on the label say 100% waterproof its simply not so ill be doing another upload on it soon ..on a nikwax coating as a follower does just that so ill give that a go cheers for comment
@lyellharrington7260

Nothing is waterproof if been drenched at speed for long enough, had to do a full day must do riding in torrential non stop rain for 7 hours straight just to catch my ferry crossing for home a couple of years ago. Completely soaked thru every layer including the waterproof layers and it didn't matter one little bit what the waterproof layer was, hell even the top inside of my helmet was completely soaked thru, mine you the west coast of the south island of New Zealand has a very well deserved reputation when it comes to heavy rain fall amounts.

On a 7 hour trip in that type of rain this jacket I would of been soaked 20mins in not sure how long your gear held up ?? If this jacket held up for 5. 6 hours youde be stoked on a 7 hour trip like that ive only ever had 1 jacket that held up an Rjay i wore it out i rode from port stephens to melbourn the day the pasha bulker ground in Newcastle that weather was nuts horrizonal rain i only paid $230 for that jacket cheers for comment legend

I ride with Klim Badlands- never had a problem BUT like all gortex M/C gear every time it is cleaned- in my case professionally as my machine is too small- I also have the suit reproofed - You mentioned using a dryer- I have been told that this is a NO NO - should be air dried- Just a few thoughts. PS Since I purchased my Klim the new price is now astronomical in comparison to the Alpinestar or the like products. Cheers Grant

I wouldn't put it in the drier. They tell you, in the instructions, not to do that. It would likely void any warranty. That jacket looks like a Ketchum. I just bought one of those the other day. I hope mine doesn't leak.

Ide say 100% would leak or get soaked if riding for hours as some water got in that ride was about an hour ...the storm i rode in when in Darwin was hard rain but started leaking fairly quickly ....ill nikwax the jacket and do another upload in the future and look out for heavy rain cheers for comment

I honestly believe what I've experienced, and also heard, many times - nothing is waterproof if you ride through heavy rain for long enough! I think the fact that you were even slightly wet on this experiment just means that if you'd ridden another hour you would have been soaked. I bought a Dri Rider ADV jacket about 5 years ago and it is just about as good as my friend's KLIM, but if I face heavy rain I'll throw an overjacket on.

Great video bud, I've always been hesitant to spend big on ADV jackets in fear they may under-deliver. I think the best way to deal with heavy rain like we're having now is the over-suit rain coats. They proved themselves when we headed south to the Bridal on day 1. My Komine gear has been brilliant the last few years but I'm now looking at something else, something rain resistant but will still have that added wet weather protection over the top.

Main issue with Gortex is it doesn't breathe well. Darwin is very hot /humid. Could the water have been sweat/perspiration rather than the rain getting through?.

Not sure if I heard correctly - but I believe the correct / best way to not get water in gloves and up sleeves is to have long gloves under your sleeve and tighten down. Normally the angle of your wrist to hand is sloping down - so water runs over glove. I have Klim Carlsbad jacket and Mosko Basilik pants - both waterproof - unless any ingress gaps (neck or up sleeves or up under waist). If you TechWash (NikNak) IF dirty and then usually put in gentle / low warm dryer to reactive the DWD water proof on the outer fabric. I agree the Gortex layer should not leak

I have been wearing an Alpinestars "Tech Touring" Gore Tex jacket for the past few years, similarly priced to yours, and I am happy to say it has been faultless throughout numerous wet weather rides. One ride in particular with torrential rain from Armidale through Dorrigo and down to South West Rocks it certainly proved its worth. (the jacket has never been washed and dried, just wiped over to remove bugs etc a few times)
