Brunswicks and Edison Dimond diskacjines had as seen here "tubs" sized hotns. While the Othopjpnic machirs as a rule wete better sounding, the vilume could be anazing.

If the horns were bigger on the gramophones, were the songs necessarily louder?

Whenever I hear Lindbergh I think of the death of their baby and the book that his wife wrote "Gift of the Sea" which is a beautiful little book. But, anyway, this is a very patriotic song!

Whenever I get caught in the rain I sing this and picture Gene Kelley dancing to it. A ballet teacher I had starred and danced with him in the movie "Finnegan's Rainbow." So that's my 6 degrees of separation to him!

So very much of its time - can you imagine a rather sweet and sad song such as this being composed today - I love Bing Crosby's work

If you can find it, watch the film “Say It With Songs” starring Al Jolson. And yes, this recording is a real tear-jerker. It’s been told that Jolson quite frequently wept while recording songs and that’s what is being heard here. His most famous example is while recording “Sonny Boy,” which he still kept breaking down on through his Decca Records recordings in the late 1940’s.

I’d agree with a previous poster’s comment on another video that horn might scare some kids! Did it ever have a screen over it?

These Brunswicks did originally have grilles over the horns, yes.

@@MaryBethPetra yes, this one has a removable grille that can be seen in several of my videos. I remove it occasionally to reveal the beautiful internal wooden horn.

@@danthevictrolaman9830 That horn is beautiful. It looks like a delicate golden spruce or curly maple wood. Spruce I’d understand; resonant and strong. (You also have some other lovely gramophones around that I saw in another video. Perhaps sometime you might do an explanatory video on what makes a few of them unique. I’m sure lots of people would enjoy that. I know I would!)

🎶🎙" Yes Sir, that's my baby No Sir, don't mean maybe Yes Sir, that's my baby now " Thank's for the memories. We had a player like this. I used to sing these sings for my father. My mom and dad survived the depression era and WW2. They were both born early 1900's. When I hear this....I see them. ❤ Keep it alive! These were great days when less was more and everyone was happy.

Hoagy Carmichael was a wonderful composer - I love his recording of this as well. I think everyone that ever recorded a song has recorded this on and "Georgia On my Mind" as well. Bing's rendition is great!!
