Thank you for a good set of comments about physical and behavioral chacteristics of vans. Last fall I adopted a 2 month old kitten from the county animal shelter. He was a small hissing bundle ready to strike out at anyone that got close. BUT, I'd had a wonderful van that was personally plus for about 10 years before I lost him. So I really wanted another van, even though the shelter volunteers had pegged him as a "bad boy" and told me so. Now, I'm not so sure about him. Yes, we've bonded, and yes, I love him to bits ( -he's a big beautiful van at 8 months old, and he is loving and very, very smart). BUT, he can't resist biting me hard, repeatedly even breaking the skin on my arms and hands. I've tried pushing him away and ignoring him for a while, like mother cats do with rambunctious kittens, it works til the whim comes over him again and I'm in the grip of a large strong cat biting me with sharp teeth attached like a vise on my skin. I see quite a few vans in your video doing precisely that! I'm beginning to think I may not be able to keep this cat as a normal pet unless he stops regularly attacking me. (I have several spray bottles that stop him immediately, and he backs away when I reach for them, so I've been hopeful that will help. But, he has to see I've gotten one out and will use it if necessary. I'm trying to associate the spray bottle with a loud "NO BITING" command and he does know what all that means. It's just that he can't stop himself at times, it seems! ) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, any suggestion. (--- and yes, he has plenty of toys and I spend time playing with him with his jingle balls and soft toys on a string!) So, what can I do????

My Ragdoll cats are therapeutic for my foster children. They give love, comfort, and connection to each child. I directly supervise and know each child well, so the cats and the children are safe. Each child has a slightly different relationship with the cats, this is due to the child’s history, level and type of trauma, and capacity for reciprocal nurturing.

I am so lucky to have my girl bobtail. I have been around cats most of my life but have never encountered one this amazing until her. She is incredibly smart as well as emotionally intelligent. She knows I am her human. She acts so much like a woman that she let's me know when she is upset with me like she is my girlfriend. An Incredible little fur ball lol

If some cats smell, why have we never seen a video of, say, top ten stinky cats? Can you name even one stinky breed? No, because there is no such thing. I have had cats for over 50 years and they have all smelled incredibly lovely! In fact, my top three smells are: 1) my cats, 2) my children when they were babies, and 3) freshly cut grass.

Cheetah and Cougar aren't Feline group...they can't be considered big cats...

I really wish i could post photos of my turkish van. We got him for free. Best damn cat! He is just like a dog. he plays fetch! He gets along great with his bombay sister!

Good tips for people wondering if it’s a good breed for them or not. But for me, Maine Coons are one of the *only* breeds I will live with. 😻 Playing in water & wet floors is very true! 😂

You are wrong about the coats, my girl is pure black but she has the body shape of Siamese, ive seen both of her parents and the breeder! Ive also seen brown and other variants too!

We were the lucky owners of three Ragdoll cats. A week ago we lost our oldest , Lyla , a mitted seal to polycystic liver disease. The vets could do nothing . She died in my arms. She was only six years old and we cried for days. She was a beautiful loving cat. Our two remaining Ragdolls are a source of endless joy. If you have the chance to adopt a Ragdoll cat take it with both arms. Your life will be enriched for the experience.
