My application requires moving a 10 pound load up and down only over a two meter distance. Do you have anything for such a light duty?
@PBCLinear
@PBCLinear Ай бұрын
Thank you for your inquiry. PBC Linear offers several potential options based on the initial information provided. In a general sense I would suggest considering a CAM Roller solution, more commonly used light duty products would be our Commercial Rail or Hardened Crown Roller linear guide systems as a starting point. PBC Linear provides product catalog and configurators on our website for more detailed information, otherwise, arrangements can be made with our Application Group at [email protected] for a more detailed discussion if needed. pbclinear.com/product-features/cam-roller-technology pbclinear.com/tools/configure-quote

I have a question. What are the chances of friction or grazing between non rotating, sliding elements which are attached to the hardened crown rollers and the rails??
@PBCLinear
@PBCLinear 6 ай бұрын
In any linear system setup, make sure to have proper clearance for parts of the system in motion and strive to have good alignment. The Harden Crown Roller Rail is manufactured from ASTM A1011 low carbon steel which is essentially soft carbon steel, if the rail incurs mis-alignment, skidding of rollers, etc. the rail will likely scratch or show signs of wear in the rail. To minimize potential marring of the rail it would be necessary to use a hardened rail product such as “V” rollers/rail or Redi-Rail this will reduce the chance of scratching the hardened rail surfaces, depending on the circumstances even this cannot guarantee not scratching or marring the rail running surfaces. - PBC Linear Application Engineer

I'm designing a sliding machine table that needs to cantilever: 700mm cantilever with 30 kg vertical end load. Is this feasible with roller bearing pillow blocks?
@PBCLinear
@PBCLinear Жыл бұрын
Roller Pillow Blocks are not recommended in a cantilever load condition due to the pull off force being applied typically to the rear supporting pillow block assembly. When using shafting as the linear raceway we would typically suggest using our IPPN or IPPSN series linear ball pillow blocks, being sure to size the shaft and pillow block for the rear “P2” pillow block force to prevent pull off from the shaft. Typically in a cantilevered application it is more common to utilize a Cam Roller Solution such as Redi-Rail or Commercial Rail products that will guide and contain the rollers when used in the normal radial bearing load orientation with two parallel rails. @PBCLinear
@PBCLinear 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mechanic Man - Redi-Rail has been used in Solar Panel and other outdoor applications, the Redi-Rail product is a combination of Aluminum Rail and Slider Body and can be provided with an Optional - 440 Stainless Steel Roller/Roller Raceway in the to minimize potential corrosion. We would also suggest the wiper option with the oil impregnated plastic wipers to provide a form of lubrication between slider rollers and rail raceways. Please note: 440 Stainless steel aids in reducing potential corrosion but can still tarnish or discolor over time with use. Almost afraid to ask this question. I’ve been trying to find info on if you can use any or certain rails on the top and have the block on the bottom. Also, can you have offset weight on the block? This will sound like an odd idea, but what I’d like to make is a rail or track under my desk, mount my flight sticks to a plate on the block. The weight would be all on one side and that’s about 10 pounds. I would have two of these. Plus I would need something to lock it in place. This would free up my desk by letting me slide the controls out of the way. These are not cheap plastic flight sticks. They are from a company called Virpil. I’m sure this setup would be a fair amount, but I have about 1k invested already. Flight sim and Space sim pilot.Thanks for your time.

How long do these usually last before needing re tightening? The screw version seems also more precise to calibrate
@PBCLinear
@PBCLinear 2 жыл бұрын
There is no way to predict how long the preload adjustment will remain in proper tension to retain the carriage on the rail due to many possible variables of loading, rail deflection, environment, speeds being used in the application. Best to test the component under specific application use case to determine if specific adjustments will be required.

When the driver is on the motor it will get hotter, not cooler! it is bad for the driver, and if one fails so is the other and you have to replace both. I don't think it is such a great setup. And the servo motor is so cheap today I don't see any reason to use the stepper any longer...
@Kalvinjj
@Kalvinjj 3 жыл бұрын
That depends a lot, but it tends to be true. On a closed loop system, you do not need to keep a large current to hold the position, so you don't heat up the stepper nearly as much as with an open loop one, where you just simply require a larger hold current just in case, to have enough torque for the worst case scenario. Actually on an closed loop one you can downright turn off the stepper if you are on a full step position, and only apply current to get back to the position if it ever needs. The steppers also heat up a lot less when moving than when holding at the same current, since all that current is producing no power on the axis when in hold. Even the running current can actually be scaled up on-the-fly, since you just need to increase it until it hits the position required at the time required, you don't need to run them continuously at full blast. This is even true for low cost closed-loop steppers like those for 3D printers/CNCs found on Aliexpress. I have a pair of Bigtreetech S42Bs on my machine and the steppers run very cold all the time, running or stopped, and so does the driver (because of the aforementioned reasons).

The traditional stepper motor used is a closed loop (not open as shown in the video) stepper motor with built in encoder and driver. This is quite an improvement from the real traditional open motor with separate driver without encoder. The price difference for that improvement is little compared to upgrading to servo motor.
