There must be a cost versus output that puts a limit on the life of the fuel cells. Also, when the pool was in use and containing fuel cells in storage, what was the temperature of the water, or, what could it reach? Very interesting look into a nuclear plant, albeit, closed.
@RadioactiveDrew20 сағат бұрын
Usually the fuel isn't referred to as "fuel cells". Usually its called nuclear fuel, spent fuel, fuel bundles. When some of the enriched uranium 235 fuel fissions in the reactor it turns into other non-fissile isotopes. This makes the power output drop because the heat drops. Pressurized water reactors like San Onofre aren't very efficient at using the fuel. When the spent fuel is removed from the reactor its very hot. I would imagine the water to be a little warmer right after the fuel is swapped out.

Still no one talks of the children murdered by the nuclear accident that occured from the PGE nuclear accident in Humboldt Bay Unit #3 on 7-17-1970. The U.S. Congress' s Joint Committee on Atomic Energy intenionally lost the nuclear operators log so they could cover up the killing of children at South Bay Elementary School 450yrds. Downwind of the reactor. Read "Humboldt Nuclear Accident" by Scott Rainsford. This happened at the peak (50-60) period of construction of comercial nuclear power plants. The "Program" was more important than those childrens lives!

Looked it up and its a whole lot of nothing. No one was murdered by any radioactive release. Cancers have been found to be caused by the pulp mill in the area.

@@RadioactiveDrew NO Drew, Scott Rainsford and his now " team" have assembled 2000 pages of government documents that prove the core was uncovered during this accident. The reactor was refueled 8 weeks before the accident yet much of the new fuel was shipped to "Nuclear Fuel Services" of West Valley, New York within a year without spending 5 years in the spent fuel pool. So Mr. Rainsford went to New York from California and spoke with a past employee of NFS that said fuel rods from that shipment had been in various stages of melting. He also said that workers hated to see shipments from that plant because it was famous for sending damaged fuel which increased danger to the employees. They would back then receive $30m in compensation. Look at NFS's history. This is only one of many ways of providing proof!

@@RadioactiveDrew NO Drew, what exactly did you look up? Did you just ask the NRC? Yet still the nuclear industry refuses to use a molten salt reactor to use the spent fuel rods to generate more power and reduce them to completely inert and harmless. The problem with nuclear power is that when it goes wrong...and it will...its cataclysmic. No one will ever change my mind. The entire reason water reactors were created was to create weapons grade radioactive material. My mother was administrative assistant to the director of the Atomic Energy commission back in the 1960's and heard all the information first hand.
@RadioactiveDrew20 сағат бұрын
Yes, light water reactors were pushed as a way to generate power because it lined up with fuel enrichment and plutonium production. Breeder reactors would have been a much better solution that's for sure.

@RadioactiveDrew3 күн бұрын
The original reason why it was closed down was because of a leaking steam generator. It was an excuse that Southern California Edison used to close down the plant. It was closed down because anti-nuclear people don't understand how any of the tech works or what are the real risks associated with nuclear power.

@@RadioactiveDrew Yes sir, totally agree. It totally blows me away that the real answer to the world energy demands could be so easily covered by nuclear power. Yet we have halfwits closing down safe and functional Nuclear power plants. Correct me if I am wrong but 3 mile island did not release any radio activity and if the guys running the plant had of been better trained it would not have happen. Chernobyl was an act of sheer stupidity that is a study in why communism does not work. Fukushima Daiichi Accident could have been totally prevented if not for the hubris of the Japanese engineers putting the emergency backup power generators in the basement of a earthquake tsunami prone area. its intentional dumping of waste... they mix it in the asphalt or sell it as asphalt. most contractors have no idea. and no reason to believe theyd be exposed or exposing others to such high level waste. from 1990 until today... its been an allowed method of waste disposal. Fracking is another method and this got it banned in some places. the greatest risk is to the workers heating it up, breathing it in..along with other chemicals. and longer exposure times. on a hot day everyone would be breathing radioactive byproducts and daughter particles... and these roads break down and particles easily begin to become suspended in air on hotter days. there is always dust and dirt too... exposing the skin eyes ears and lungs. the mouth. soft tissues have less of a defense. horribly ignorant if not criminal negligence. but thats on the supplyers and the sources. it may be found during an investigation... that fracking caused the contamination, no part of the process for road material was ever checked. and they wouldnt know they needed to. youd just assume that what your buying is what the label and producer say it is 🥺🙏

I was in McDonald’s minding my own when suddenly my RadiaCode 102 started screaming. Not just my level 1 alarm but my level 2 alarm (I have fairly low set points of 10 and 100 CPS, but for my environment I don’t even reach 5 CPS all too often) I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I restarted my 102, and my app. Still going off. I didn’t get to track it down with the meter before it stopped going off. I didn’t realize it would be sensitive enough to pick up someone receiving radiation treatments, especially considering the distance I was from the customers. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it in the future. That could also explain a lot of “random” blips when I’m out and about.

when you where tricking the sensor to make the projector think it was running, do you need to worry about the heat of the xenon bulb? when you were checking the light with the light meter? can it lead to a projector catching on fire if you leave the doser open for long period of time?
@RadioactiveDrew9 күн бұрын
The film gate is water cooled and there is a glass filter between the lamp house and the projector head. That glass cuts down on a lot of the heat coming off the bulb. In theory, if I had the lamp on with the projector running white light it could maybe damage the lens. I think this might have been a problem long ago.
@shawnbottomley63819 күн бұрын
back in my day as a Projectionist I came in for my shift with 1 technician from outside of my theater company which had contract to do certain maintenance like changing xenon bulb, fixing broken stuff on a Project, just General things where it lies outside of my realm of duty which I shouldn't be messing around with, the technician had to do, which requires extra training from technical training is required so some college and university degree is required. So when I came in the technician was finishing up changing the xenon bulb in 1 projector, the technician made 1 mistake which cause 1 platter to spin which the bulb was inside the box but wasn't fully closed, so after the platter started spinning the blub inside the box fallen to the ground cause wide spread of the bulb glass to spread across the floor, luckily the box the bulb was in probably saved me and the technician from getting injured. It was scary but good learning experience.
