great videos, but just to be clear, when you "install the post sleeve over the 4x4 framing" , there is a 4x4 post already set in place, correct? I only ask, because it isn't visible in the video. How long(tall) are your 4x4s? @ 0:40, you can see space at the top of your post sleeve, so wondering if your 4x4 is 37" or 36" or what, as it's clearly not the same height as the post sleeve.

Question: The inside dimension of the sleeve is 95 mm ( rib to rib) and the 4x4 post size is 89 mm (3 1/2” x 3 1/2”). Once you insert the sleeve on to the post, there is a gap of 3 mm [(95 - 89)/2 = 3] all around between the sleeve and the treated wood post. When you attach the RSB to the post, the sleeve has to compress that 3 mm in order to touch the post (from both sides, if brackets are attached on both sides of the post). In my opinion compressing composite sleeve by a total of 6 mm (3 mm on each side) is not good. Don’t you have to put 3 mm shims between the sleeve and the post before you attach the RSB to the post?

Are you extending your post above the deck and making cuts in the decking to fit around the post ,or are you installing the post on top of decking material ?

What holds the post sleeve in place? The 2 screws thru the bracket into the post ? Are they long enough to get into the 4x4 wood?

no safety glasses on the mitre saw made me wince-yikes! Also, if I understood correctly, you were suggesting taking 1/4" off each side to accommodate for the gaskets that cover your cuts-this would be way too much and would prevent the desired snug fit-I usually suggest 3/16 total or 3/16 each side. Great video and keep up the good work-but safety never takes a holiday!

What screws are used for going into the composite sleeve through to the wood? I know they come in the package but want to know what they are if I need additional.

I would just use 2" "deck screws" found in the fastener section of your box stores-"deck mate" is a common brand. Honestly most exterior screws will be superior to the ones that come in the Trex packet anyway

This was very helpful! My house has concrete front steps that a previous owner covered with wood. That wood is now rotting. I was thinking of recovering the steps with trex/composite. I watched your other video on the post install but I won’t be able to use lag bolts for my posts (I’ll be stuck securing the 4x4 to the concrete). Do you have any suggestions on the best way to handle this project? Can I just use sleepers laid on top of the existing concrete like the previous owner did?

Why did you not install the black anti rattle strips? They are packed with the infill kit that was paid for. Many people will get mislead thinking they are for glass and not use them.

@@aaronmurphy8271 When I first looked at them I thought “why no drain holes in the anti rattle strips”. In addition, make sure you check the holes on each kit. Line each one ( upper and lower ) on top of each other and check to see if the holes are punched in the same spots. I’m in Trex hell right now. Waiting 3 months for resolution.

Great videos. Decided to replace my 20 year old deck boards and railings with trex boards and composite railings. These videos were extremely helpful. Thank you. Side note: I went and bought those timber lock lag bolts and was a bit skeptical. After installing the first post (as per your installation instruction), I was amazed how sturdy they were. Thank you.
