I just bought a hustler trim star that has similar controls and I just love how easy it is to operate and set the cutting high so why did scag ever stop making these and decided to keep those awful mowers that require lifting the entire front of the mower to adjust the cutting high by removing the front casters and rings on it??? Just why!!!!????
@brocslaton302426 күн бұрын
STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOWER!!! You are begging for problems with this mower! If you just bought it, return it! I had mine for 15 minutes. 5 passes with this mower and the self propel stopped working. No matter much i moved the throttle for the self propel it was always the same until it stopped working entirely. I popped open the plate on the back to look at the cables and it was crammed full of grass. I wasnt even cutting tall grass. I blew it out and checked the cables, the self propel was still not working. The other issue with this mower is it does not cut low enough. If you plan on ever scalping with this mower, dont it wont happen.

I built am areator about 20-+ years ago, kinda patterned it after a Glenco Soil-Saver chisel plow and raised it with the sleeve hitch on my 10 hp Gear Drive Cub Cadet and forced it into the ground with about 500-600# of steel blocks from the steel foundry I worked for. I made seven wheels with six spikes on each wheel, they all made half inch diameter holes between 2-1/2 to 3 inches deep. My 10 hp Cub Cadet could pull it about 3-1/2 to 4 mph in 2nd gear, my #72 has the fast 2nd in it. I have Firestone 23 degree ag tractor lugged rear tires on my 72, never any slippage with them. I aerate in the late fall, but before the frost goes into the ground. I've areated in 2-3 inches of snow, and I can find holes from aerating in the following spring. I have spread fertilizer after areating, and over-seeded new grass seed also. Aerating REALLY improved the condition of my lawn. I have a couple trees that have real shallow or exposed roots, and last time I aerated I bent a spike on one of those roots. Not sure how I'll eventually fix it, maybe make a new wheel, or weld in a new spike, or maybe just straighten the bent one. I broke the sleeve hitch adapter and have to either repair or replace it. I have areated with the sleeve hitch on my 982 Cub Cadet, no heavy lifting, everything is hydraulic. Since I put a 14 hp Kohler in my Gear Drive Cub Cadet I could easily pull the areator with two more wheels on it, 9 instead of 7. The first time I had a lawn service plug aerate my lawn I thought a huge pack of wild dogs ran thru my yard and pooped from one end clear to the other, and it looked like that for about a month. With my aerator I get the benefits without the disgusting look afterwards. Guys on another brand lawn equipment website than I use are absolutely positive that I'm killing my grass, wasting my time and gas, and I'm just plain dumb for poking thousands and thousands of holes in my yard without pulling little cylinders of dirt out of the holes. I'm not going to comment on who I think the DUMB ONE is but after I go over my lawn even 3-4 times and turning on the headlands my grass still looks almost completely undisturbed. I haven't aerated in probably 8 to 10 years, more a lack of time in the fall than anything. I may get the aerator out of it's hiding spot and repair the sleeve hitch and go over the yard a time or two this fall.

I have both the SFC 21 and the SFC 30. 21 is my mower and the 30 is at my late grandpa's place. We went the 30 inch due to his overall property size. I personally have no issue with my SFC 21. It's very well rounded but I did get the 7hp engine. The SFC 30 however... my lord what a nightmare. The fact I got a 2021 model is worse. So go with this 21 inch model from my experience if anyone goes Scag.

I wish you’d come cut the hill behind my house and see who’s laughing. Not only is it incredibly steep just to walk up, without a mower, it also stays wet all the time so it’s incredibly dangerous to get on with any lawn mower. What I really need is one of those articulating bushhogs like you see sometimes mowing down the side of a highway, but they are $$$$$. I mean this thing isn’t cheap, but the articulating bushhog is tens of thousands of dollars.

Its about time Scag caught up with Wright. A Stand on that only go to a 4.5 inch cut and has one gas tank is ridiculous. However, Wright just came out with a new stripped-down version that is going to cost THOUSANDS less than other models. This is coming from someone that has only ever ran Scag because of the Velocity deck, but I'm looking hard at Wrights now. I will compare pricing between this XL Scag and the new X Stand on Wright, because I still believe Scag has the best cutting deck in the business.
