You spoke my mind 😭 I can't believe it took finding a video from 6 years ago to see a sensible review about this book. This book is bad. Like not even mid. it's just bad. But the way ppl talked about it when they recommended it, I thought I was going in for a life changing experience, but it felt like they pulled a prank on me when I started reading it. What could they possible find appealing about this book? I need to know...

A quarter of the way through i was so bored with the pointless suburban garbage that i had to stop and reassure myself that the solution wasn't what i thought. Well, turns out it was. What a stupid boring terrible waste of time story. These people kill for no reason and the nameless main character is embarrassingly dumb. This story is only surprising if you have bought into patriarchy and the ideas that women are innocent damsels and male cheaters are victims. This wanted to be Gone Girl and was instead a sedative. The solution was so obvious...

Vivienne was lowkey my favorite character in the entire story (Also- I’m so glad that you pointed out the lack of world building! As a COMPLETE newbie to fae lore, this book’s world confused me on so many levels lol)

Im pretty sure the great island nation that was destroyed in the opium wars was hong kong which was captured by britian and followed the capture of Nanjing which the treaty was signed. But thanks i think im going to read this book myself. It seems very interesting, and i know it subverts expectations, but as is all in reality.. Things really are that fragile and go from bad to worse quickly and small fights that break out often lead to mass war (read of the 2 serbian men who started ww1 and ww2) and just how quik this leads to all out war and how quick complete and total destruction can and does come (historically) for these great nations

It got a little boring halfway through. The chapters were really long and descriptive in my opinion..

Well the thing is the romance is not heavy if you are used to reading romance books. It just boiles down to personal tastes.

I have seen a video where a Japanese creator is talking about the usage of ビデオ which you used in the beginning of this video. He said that ビデオ is used when you're implying something like VHS tape back in the day and people nowadays will use 動画 instead of ビデオ. But I always hear people say ビデオ all the time. What is your take on this?

I think I might have enjoyed this book if I had read it as a thirteen year old. I appreciated the idea of the sci-fi plot and the unconventional format. But the overuse of clichés, plot contrivances, Very Cool and Special Teenage Characters, etc. made it feel very tedious to read as an adult. I get that I'm not the target audience so I can't be too mad about it, aside from being irritated that I was asked to read it for a book club.

I just finished this book today. My favorite part (spoiler alert I guess for other viewers who still might want to read this book) is when they have their big climactic argument because Emily tells Simon his business partner Chris is leaving town and she'll be taking over the coffee shop, leaving out the part that Chris will be coming back to town in a few months. So of course Simon panics and thinks he won't be able to carry on the Ren Faire without Chris's help. And then Emily says pretty much verbatim that he needs to get over his dead brother and stop living in the past and stop investing so much energy in the Faire, and oh my god why isn't he happy about the fact that this means she'll be staying in town? Why didn't he react immediately to her good news? Why did he focus immediately on the potential loss of this Faire that means very much to him? And then her friend/coworker and sister tell her she did nothing wrong, and she was right to demand to be put first. 🤡 I was like, "Honestly, if I were Simon, I'd run the hell away from her."

I'm not even 30 pages in and i'm dropping the book cause i can't stand Emily, and the way she was offended by Simon for no reason, glad someone agrees

I believe Voldy orchestrated the graveyard scene because, as another commenter said, he's just extra to the max. He wanted a grand stage to make his grand reappearance. He assumed he'd kill Harry and then SURPRISE the world by appearing dramatically at a world event.

So much makes sense if you watch SuperCarlinBrothers video "Dumbledore's Big Plan." Why did Dumbledore and the other teachers just allow the kids to be in danger rather than help? This video is a great theory.

I wrote a review highlighting the same problem with the surveillance tapes. We're told they are a report but they're written like a conventional novel, because a report would be too dry. So yeah, they make the rules and then they break them, and the result is a disconnect, at least for me. I was like " who would write a report like it's a literature contest? How would they know about this?"

When we cant explain why things happen in life, we say god works in mysterious ways. When we cant explain why things happen in the book, we say its a plot hole...

I disagree...why did moises had to separate the sea and not just kill the pursuers. Why did god have to die to save save our sins. Why can he just magicly save us from our sins. In the goblet of fire, can you imagine if harry just disappear? Every professor and students would be investigated. Whereas if he just disppear in the maze. They would not blame it on anyone. People have died in the Triwizard tourney you see... Your comments have a lot of plots holes, i wish i could discuss them all. But i have no time and space.

I DIED laughing when Emily had to ask what jousting was… like FOUR pages after she claimed to know exactly what Shakespeare was doing in 1602 and specific details about the time period. 😅 and her not knowing what acting is, apparently.

I dance ballet as an adult and want to take it seriously as much as I want to take as a child. It's wonderful and the community for adults who love ballet or any kind of dance. A Company of Swans reminds me of a book Dancing in The Dark by Robyn Bavati

To read this right after SJM's ACOTAR series was disappointing. I'm all for morally gray characters but this was a hard miss, uninteresting and unlikable characters with no depth, and they were hard to connect to. At some point, I even closed my eyes and willed my active imagination to imagine their world but it was a lost cause. Also, the scenes were too repetitive. Nope

Im not quite done with this book but i have been loving every page. This book grabbed me the first few pages. This is my first time ever taking notes while reading, i dont want to miss anything! Usually, I'm so overwhelmed when there are too many characters but i love how Stuart Turton organizes them all and makes the characters so unique to where its hard to forget any of them. I have seen some people say they couldnt get into the book because it was too much jumping timelines, a bit too confusing and i completely understand that. As for me, i love mysteries like this. I love time loops. I love the beautiful environment Stuart paints to make the reader feel like they're really there. I love love love this book! And I'll definitely read it again!

Well i hated the ending, and the epilogue couldn't even fix it. Not all surprises are good. This is nothing but a cautionary tale of how people can make you into a monster from which you can never return to yourself, but it should have at least shown how she overcame losing Locke and Cardan by finding a more noble, fulfilling purpose than merely wielding power over a throne her better self never wanted. She still didn't even belong to either world in the end, and she had nothing more fitting to show for it than hated, lonely, power over fairyland? I know she thought she was making fairyland better, but yeah, what happens after a year? I thought this was "enemy-to-friend," but it was merely enemy-to-worse-enemy. How stupid and disappointing (even though, again, congrats for surprising me lol)! How is this supposed to be constructive (despite the dark beauty of its description of how it feels to be an innocent outcast from every land and unable to find yourself again after suffering excruciating loss at the hands of the humans and their dumb pride)?
