As a young lad my family crossed it many times on our way from Lawrenceburg to Rising Sun to visit relatives. At the time it had a metal grate road deck. Circa 1960

A few tweaks to your narrative (I hope you don't mind). The bridge is actually unique. It's sort of a bowstring it is actually an inverted bowstring (of which two remain). On a 'regular' bowstring (which is also a rare form) the metal arch is in compression (being squeezed). In an inverted bowstring, the inverted arch is in tension (being stretched). The 1870 iteration of the Main Street Bridge in Dayton, Ohio was a four span, all metal, inverted bowstring. It was also made by the Morrisons. This bridge is also one of very few surviving combination trusses. A combination truss is where all of the compression members are made of wood and all of the tension members and connections are made of iron (not steel). The use of wooden components in the truss is the reason for the bridge's covering. The other remaining inverted bowstring is of all metal construction and not covered. Thus this is the only inverted bowstring combination truss remaining in the world. A slightly humorous error is that the bridge was long thought to have been made in 1870. However, research done about 20 years ago determined the bridge is actually older, having been built in 1865 (the second oldest bridge, known to have been built by the Columbia Bridge Works that is still standing). However, it was decided that the 1870 signs were historic in their own right and were left in place.

Only one of its kind standing. It's not made of steel, but wrought iron.

I like your videos on these old bridges. Just a note, the original parts of the bridge are made of wrought iron, it was made by the Massillon Bridge Co. Only the newer, added extra support is steel.

There's history of the covered bridge in Oxford, but no history on the military base that was located at Houston Woods back in the 1960's and earlier. Why? .

It would be nice to show a little of the drive as you approach the bridge. Just in case the road would be somewhat rough, people would be able to determine if their vehicle would handle the drive.

Bottles occasionally come up for auction, the last one I saw was a quart bottle that sold for $5,000.00. Several families in Germantown own empty bottles with labels and there are rumors of one full bottle in private hands in town. Best wishes! - owner of the David Rohrer Mansion.

Adding the water flow sound effect was a nice touch. I've been through this bridge a few times over the years, on bicycle as a kid and car now that I'm older. The floor has been replaced years ago, the old floor use to be a series of wooden planks running long ways, you had left and right planks you had to drive over, I remember if it was raining and the planks were wet they were like driving on ice, very slippery.

Thank you for the comment. I can imagine that the old floor boards got slickery when wet. I also had a covered bridge as a child. Unfortunately it did not survive. I am always thrilled to see the Martinsville Road Covered Bridge.
