OK, THX for the great video, I got some idea for my DIY notebook.

You are positively brilliant xD This reminds me a ton of my old Vaio P that I brute-forced into being able to play FFXI on max settings with an old Atom chip. This formfactor and a few other adjustments/hinges would allow for a modernized version without the silly trackpad.. You've given me a lot to look into xD Thanks for making this- you've done absolutely excellent work!

This is sweet. I might have to give something like this a go via PCBWay/KiCAD if my litespeed g902 starts running into weird double-clicking stuff again. Having a custom one with a resin print sounds awesome, neopixels just give another good excuse to do it lol. It'd be fun to do some cutouts and fill with resin as well for transparency or that old purple gameboy look. Might be fun to do some kind of OpenMouse project for Github with a parts list & repository for example code!

A more squared design and a trackpad and palmrest and it'll have an industrial iBook style.

Thanks for a very detailed build video. At 04:18 the SBR16 is being attached to the 6060 extrusion. What steps did you take to align the SRB16 to this extrusion? thanks

This is super awesome. I've never fully delved into Arduino and from what I hear its the easiest way to start. I personally like my Logitech MX and I have rather enormous hands that dwarf it but I've still come to like it. I would however like to do something like this for a CAD specific mouse add on with the controllable keys and stuff. The info on the PCB design software you used is also helpful as I too have never had luck with surface mount components and can really only understand simple PCBs.

if you ever do a v2 of this, reconsider the trackball placement for a vertical mode, I think that would be real nice in this form factor

Amazing video I love your stuff man! I have found that any electrical tape I use on a project is a sticky mess when I come back a year later. Would be interested to know if you have to modify it later what the state of those taped parts are.
@benmakeseverything23 күн бұрын
The tape wasn't really holding anything structural, just some wires - some of did peel off but the wires have stayed in place pretty well. I am typing this comment on the cyberdeck right now, so I'd say its held up well overall.

Omg i love that people are finding mor eande more uses for these old motherboards instead of tossing them, by the way throughout my hour or research one day found that the ssd you got is like the absolute best from reliably and price standpoint, one of the best wd black drives is sn850x but the 770 is almost identical just slower lol but half a gig per seconds transfers is still supper fast

Great project. You don’t appear to have pull up/down resistors on your logic outputs from arduino. This would be why you are having interference issues where your opto isolators didn’t help.

You're right, I should. When I built this I knew a lot less about electronics than I do now. I have been meaning to rebuild the electronics but have been busy with other stuff.

HPCfactor forums would like to see a clamshell design for v2 !
@dosgosАй бұрын
Incredible concept. A few ideas to consider for v2. 1. Try moving the ports backwards so the wires don't bother you when typing. 2. Apple keeps the speakers in sealed ports, firing upwards for good sound. 3. Track balls can be finnicky; you might be able to squeeze in a slightly bigger one moving the board. 4. Consider a few air intake ducts (boost cooling efficiency and reduce fan sound). 5. File down the alu screen bezel to remove friction before it kills the hinge 6. Use loc-tite on hinge bolts (be careful using it on plastics). 7. Touchscreen would be ultimate flex but I don't know if it would be useful in practice, maybe with a stylus.

Is it possible for you give a price comparison with a comparable comercial CNC?
@benmakeseverythingАй бұрын
This cost me somewhere around $1000 but most of the parts were bought in 2020, so it may be a bit more now. Obviously that is cheaper than anything of similar size/capability commercially available, but it was a lot of work and required me to learn a lot of things in order to get it working.

@pimplefacedprick2595Ай бұрын
If you get a freeware software called "Volumouse" you can add scroll to the trackball. Really that will give the ability to control just about anything and everything with the track ball. It's simple but useful.

please use rubber or latex gloves and a face mask when machining aluminum, aluminum powder is toxic once it inters the bloodstream and the fine dust particles will enter the blood stream.
