Hi again, I've just found out from watching an interview with a 501stPIR veteran (Tom Rice) what the 501 used for face blackening: "Some of the fellas wiped their fingers through the exhaust pipes of the engine...and smeared the exhaust on their faces, mixed with a little bit of oil from the crankcase" Interestingly, he says the crickets signals were the one click, then one click, then two, then three etc. Maybe it was a 501st thing?

Any idea where to get chewing gum strips? I can't find them anywhere except Ebay. With the tablet chewing gums, they're the only ones I can find at the moment (nobody seems to make sticks), I've made the "Dentyne" type ones as seen on K-Ration info.

K-Ration cans - the best sized cans I've found are Waitrose's Salmon can's, I bought a couple the other day, not very keen on eating salmon every event though. M&S do the same cans, but with the opening thing like normal can's (Waitrose's ones require can openers). NZ was much better for this kind of thing, you could get 5 flavours of Tuna and 7 of Chicken, better than Salmon.

Finally, I have seen all of your videos, it's taken me a while, now I need to finish reading through the MD44 website (yes, I've been reading through the website, and making repros of any items that look easy enough to make)

I just had this video running in the background whilst designing K-Ration items on Paint 3D and Word, the problem is I make all this stuff and then realise I don't have a box to put it in, so I'm in the process of persuading my parents to let me buy some boxes from K-Ration info... Hahaha, funnily enough, he's in my re-enactment group, (in New Zealand, not Aus). Last time I saw him at an event his kit was better than this, I think he had a pistol belt with riggers, it was all dirty, however his helmet net was a very light tan, almost white colour, and there's no CC2. 3:30 he mentioned his helmet being the "economy version", my ATF helmet is the same I think it's called the mixed parts M1c, mine's a postwar shell with dan original Westinghouse liner, in my opinion not bad for 150 ish USD.

Our problems we have is we portray ground crews and so many so called pilots and aircrew have ZERO practical experience and are unsafe around aircraft.

"La Hwee de pwit" Hahaha, even I can't pronounce it correctly, and I speak French. I think it's spelt "La Haye De Puits" so I think it's pronounced "La Hey De Pwi", but again I could be wrong. At 12:40 in the video, the leaflet you showed said "General Eisenhower Addresses the occupied countries" and the other says "The Allied Armies are Landing", in other words the invasion taking place. That's pronounced "Les Armay Allyay daybark", the French love having silent letters at the end of their words ;)

By the way, I think they still make Charms, I bought three from a sweet shop in New Zealand (I'll buy loads more when I go back). They look pretty similar except they're in silver foil and the design's a bit different. I tried a couple and they're just square-shaped hard candy, and very sticky. 101st Leg Ties are OD#3 ish webbing, single layered and about one inch wide. The 82nd ones are an OD#7 ish canvas like the reinforcing on the elbows, knees and pockets, and are folded over and sewn in the middle. It appears the hornbeam ones are neither, they look like chocolate HBT.

As a newborn reenactor I was outraged by that video! But it is true that to if you do SS as I do, you may look more oriented to the right as SS were under strict party control and every member of WSS was a party member or national socialist sympathizer. Regarding the weird poppers on the M42s, I think they're ATF's cheaper "JQMD" versions, they're also identifiable as the canvas reinforcing looks grey-ish. I have the same ones and the poppers do look odd when the pocket's flat, but when filled it looks fine (motivation to fill pockets).

The 506th's commander was Robert F. Sink, it was also nicknamed "The Five-O-Sink". I think the stencil would have been RS.

Totally agree, the other day I went to buy some decking oil to CC2 M42s, but when I asked I was pointed towards "Extra Protection quick dry weather resistant limited edition special super woody finish..." so I asked again, this time for "Wood oil". I then resorted to explaining re-enacting to the poor guy (because communicating in French is rather tricky, Harry will tell you with his cake sandwich). He had no clue what I was talking about, he probably thought "why would any sane person want to put oil on a perfectly good uniform?" the answer is, I don't think any re-enactor is sane. Same as back then when paratroopers "volunteered to jump out of a perfectly good plane". Anyway, that's enough from me, great video and look forward to more, and congrats on 600 subscribers, as you'd describe it that's 600 people with nothing better to do than watch you get mad at farbs.
