NUC give way, paragraph a. says “Notwithstanding anything contained in the Rules of part B, sections I and II, “ANY“vessel overtaking any other shall keep out of the way of the vessel being overtaken.

I GOT IT… Well a tanker takes 30km to come to a complete stop so that’s 18.6 miles or 16.2 nautical miles

Vessels NUC are considered privileged vessels under marine law because they are unable to maneuver, therefore the vessel being over taken is the give way vessel.

As pe rule 13 overtaking - ANY vessel overtaking ANY other shall keep out of the way of the vessel being overtaken. In simple words if any vessel be it ram, nuc, cbd if they are overthinking to other vessel are give way vesses. So in this eg. NUC is a give way vessel .

Been 20yrs since I’ve been on the Great Lakes so just trying to remember them. I’ve always tried to rule the vessel not under command as more of a mayday situation as something is happening on that vessel and it’s better to error as the standoff vessel and let them give way. If I’m remembering correctly.
