The Crown has been the greatest PR the Royal Family could have hoped for. It has made people really appreciate the Royals, and our own British History.

I love history and by Studying history we do learn the critical mistakes civilization make leading to demise, and it allows us to see that there being repeated, but history can't teach us how to avoid making them. If a civilization of the past knew they would still be going.

Wow that writer just said the continuation would be "the assassination of Charles lll and the reign of William" You give people a little power and they think they are so grand that they can say what ever they want. Fool. He just made himself look like a monster and what ever respect he may have garnered just went down.

A lot of people around the world are FROM YOUR COUNTRY!! Their ancestors! So why not start focusing history of some of the families between slum and King? As an American working on my English genealogy for over almost 7 years, there are some stumbling blocks. If you presented history specials on families of aristocracy or landed gentry that were not necessarily famous in the history books, but known or well--documented nonetheless, you could perhaps help people find some answers in their family lines. Among the landed gentry, there were scandals where lines of inheritance changed and that messes up our family trees lol. I think you could find a broadcasting gold mine if you ran a series, or Sir Tony did since he's such a great presenter, showcasing many landed gentry families, their lines, their immigrants to America and the STORIES BEHIND WHY THEY IMMIGRATED, you could help a lot of folks! I'd love if it Suzy did the research because she brings historical facts to us with emotion (she's my fav)! My particular story was the Selby family. I've found some truly fascinating, ratings-getters, true stories among them that would rake in viewers. The great, ongoing feud with the Grey family that ended up in court where a Grey murdered a Selby ,then vice versa (accidental death after a fight). Mr. Selby ended up in court and his lawyer was THE Lord Burghley!!!!!! The judge said 'now you're even" - case dismissed! I found a witch, and discovered my 5th great-grandmother by marriage was a direct descendant of the first 3 chiefs of the McGregor Clan in Scotland, and then I found out through her, I'm related by marriage to the Campbells (yes, a McGregor actually married a Campbell - after a slight name change), then the Drummonds, then the Stuarts, particularly, Henry's sister. All sorts of great stories that should be told and shared! This ongoing series could be on KZfaq (since I don't watch TV) or it could be on a paid service such as NF or Prime. Please, please, please lol !!!!

... and after watching more of this debate, I don't know if any historian realizes what I have discovered in my Selby research - that among the families who all settled with the Selby family in eastern America, they actually RE-ESTABLISHED their circle that once already existed in England. The Selby family, the Beal family and yes, their attorney in Maryland, the CECIL family, McGregor family (aka McGuder), all reunited again in Maryland, in each other's wills, all neighbors owning vast tobacco farms only a few gentlemen down the list from Lord Baltimore and King Charles II. Why did they unite in England, and then re-united again in Maryland? Our Cecil, who actually married a Selby after being their lawyer, was not a direct descendant of Robert and William (Lord Burghley) but one historian found that they do share an ancestor!! (Selfishly trying to solve the stumbling block in my family line, also lol.) I think history has a great responsibility to connect so many dots here.

I am constantly searching for names that are overlooked in the history books in favor of the more recognizable people. While I don’t mind searching the records myself, I wonder how many students of history, how many writers of it, have seen the names of the ordinary people (largely doing the nasty work and suffering the consequences thereof), but fail to mention them? History is often boring because we’ve heard the same events and names told in every other way possible, except through the eyes of the lesser players- and what we may learn from them (such as the relationships and networks that developed from them). Although I detested the “Jerry Springer” approach to entertainment, the fact is that humans crave to know details about other people they can relate to. Discovery once made a show based on a piece of my research that gave me hope in this area. Unfortunately, in an effort to make it “controversial” and more interesting, facts then went out the window… Just wanted to voice my preference for facts over fiction and more relatable content. For example, if covering a famous Battle, how about mentioning some names of a pikeman or archer and something about their lives? Same for ship crew or even properties. Everyone has a history and would be interested in discovering their place in it.

A Pathetically woke, stupid, and unoriginal comment. This video is about "Production of The Crown Series" ----not a race bating grievance session! BTW, Many Black Africans, (individuals, tribes, and sovereign African countries) looted, pillaged, and murdered. Blacks participated in the slave trade and prospered---and still do---right up to this present day!

I saw a documentary that had the Queen's maids of honour recounting their experience of that day. And one of them recalled that moment before the anointment of the holy oil when the priests and and all those men around her stripped her of all her robes and gown and she was left with just her white shift. The maid of honour said she had never seen the Queen look so small, so alone, and so vulnerable standing there, a young girl stripped of everything, with nothing but the thin fabric of her shift covering her body, almost naked. The maid of honour said she took such pity on the Queen that she wept. And her voice broke as she remembered that moment as an old woman. That was the most moving story I heard about the Queen's coronation--from an actual witness who knew and loved her.

I think the problem is that, the entertainment business being what it is, with the amount of money and resources it has, and the amount of people who want to work in the media, it tends to consume ideas faster than academia can create them, to the point where people are no longer seeing academia as the primary source of new ideas. But, don't forget that is where the history of ideas is reviewed and hence new ideas emerge, so it might just take a while for new ideas to catch up with the ability of the industry to consume them. I published 'Postmodernity & the Creation of the Anthropocene' late last year, and it is going to take a while to get it across to the public that we can now see the whole of history as a single framework in terms of understanding how our current period came into existence and where things are going from here. Hence, it may take television programs a few years to catch up with this new idea, as there will have to be a way of breaking it down into a form which can be fed to the public.
