I went as far as buying a used gen three turbo Forrester with some sensible handling upgrades and had a nice new engine built for it, put in a new clutch and drive shafts and could not be happier with my drive. I just could not deal with the whole car telling me what to do stuff. I’ve spent a lot of my time learning to drive and ride in this and other countries over the past 50 years or so and most of the recent driver/ safety aids do indeed frustrate the hell out of me as they do you. Hence the investment in a vehicle type that I have purchased previously from new in 2009. How about explosive bolts that hold the battery pack in place and a self destruct feature on the battery pack that splits the battery case wide open? When an over temperature condition is detected in the Lithium ion battery pack, the explosive bolts are set off and the battery pack drops to the ground. The car then uses its 12 V battery to drive away from the pack. Then a self destruct explosive is set off on the battery pact which blows the top off of it so that fire fighters can get water directly onto the cells. Maybe the top of the battery pack can be bolted to the car chassis and only the bottom of the battery pack drops out with the explosive bolts. Of course, if the car has been in a collision, all bets are off as to whether any such features would actually function.

Yeah I've got a 2022 gwm cannon and the lane assist is horseshit on single lane unmarked roads lije the ones in rural Victoria, where unfortunately, I happen to live. Now, if it were a single, physical button to press EVERYTIME I start the car, that might've been fine. Elon took an impossible task. Evs can't exist without a perfect battery. Even to this day it doesn't exist. Imagine the demands what it has to be. Cheap, feather light, ability to super fast charge (10 min max), reliable and long lasting (at least for 20 years with heavy usage) and it shouldn't be able to explode and burn the whole car. I just don't think this is physically possible. Too many demands, wouldn't you agree!? You can also say I want a free energy generator in my car.😂 I studied nature myself. Have just replaced my crank in my car , so ordered up all the items to complete . I ended up with only two new conrod bolts and was told the remaining bolts could take 6 months . I decided to reuse the bolts to get it on the road . I torqued the bolts then went 90 degrees . All the bolts acted the same to 90 degree then hit a wall . I have the bolts on order what could happen now to the used bolts. I have used the car. Bolts m6 x 1 x 34 and car is not a sports car .!

Here in calgary Canada these cars that dont rust are looking pretty rusty after about 2 to 3 years. So I agree that zink coatings work their sure not using it here. Very toxic material to weld and it burns away at the weld and rusting begins.

i’m an EV owner and I have no expectation of a city dispensing a free dollar worth of electric. A dollar a day in free electric is not really going to change my financial situation. level two chargers are pretty cheap to install, but dispensing free energy is decidedly less cheap. Setting up level two chargers around would be a very profitable business model. if they charge just a small markup on the electricity, they would pay for themselves pretty quickly and begin to generate revenue for the city, and frankly people would use them just as much if they were not free.

It just shows that EVs are not viable in urban areas. The cost of a EV charging station plus the cost of free electricity versus the actual environmental impact gained is probably negligible and a complete waste of taxpayers money.

Basically the car industry went south when you had to pay for carpet mats and mudflaps because bean counters got involved.
