For the ones who still ask why the other buffallos did not help the one in need, the reason is simple: you have a massive hungry croc that will bite anything which gets in the water, so there would be even more injuries to other buffallos which would've go to help. And all those injuries, even a bite can turn fatal in few days.

When I heard about this battle, I assumed the water buffalo won, since the bigger animal usually wins. I didn't imagine the croc would be bigger than 1,000 pounds (500 kg) (I know they can get bigger, but those are salt water crocs). I didn't expect the croc to get the buffalo into deeper water where it couldn't maneuver. I expected the buffalo to back out, dragging the croc. So I was surprised the battle lasted so long and the buffalo could stay underwater that long.
