Thanks for that. I assume that you can buy with different thread adapters. It would be nice to be able to buy additional jaw carriers too.

The grain in the pine really complements the dark wood. I enjoy watching you turn your multi wood bowls! Beautiful!

Well done. I am loving that more folks are gluing up blanks and using “scraps” and cut offs for. Owls now. The meranti looks great along side the pine.

Another great bowl. Can I ask where you buy your veneers as I would like to try something like this?

I bought the latest lot of veneers from www.thewoodveneerhub.co.uk/ The Wood Veneer Hub. All good quality and well packaged. Thanks 👍

Part of the joy of this hobby is buying new toys to add to the collection. I have a similar set. Two observations: mine has no grub screw to lock it in place, so I don’t turn in reverse, and the black rubber has marked my work so I always use a cloth to cover them. I hope you have many happy hours playing with your new toy 🌞

Thank you very much. New toys are loads of fun!😀👍

I have basically the same jaw set, you can also mount the soft rubber jaws to the inside of your bowl ( depending on the diameter of course) I use the tail stock to keep slight pressure on the bowl, so even if the inside of the bowl is tapered , the tail stock will secure it enough, now you don't have the rubber posts in the way. Good review!

Wow! The grain pattern is beautiful! The simple blonde wood through the middle, is attractive & doesn't take away from the beauty of the darker wood. Love that the natural beauty of both woods was brought out & could be seen! The thickness of the bowl gives it a hearty look. Thinner is cliche. Kudos!!

Too thick. Nice idea. I'm thinking about doing kind of the same thing but instead of having the epoxy on the inside turn it on the outside further down to expose the epoxy creating a translucent rim. But I definitely wouldn't have it more than a quarter of an inch thick throughout the bowl. Also to maximize Bowl space, glue a sacrificial block on to the end of it and use it as a tennon. That will save you a lot of space around the mortise
@RDMWoodturning4 күн бұрын
Yeah epoxy is something that I have 'played' with, but I just can't quite get the knack of using it. Thanks for watching
@personal.YouTube.channel8 күн бұрын
Nice looking ! .... Not much of a challenge. Way too thick of a bowl. Should have made it a lot thinner. CHALLENGE YOURSELF !
@RDMWoodturning8 күн бұрын
I get what you're saying, but with a glue up bowl of different woods there is often some tiny movement when the bowl goes into a home, so to avoid splitting and putting extra strain on the glue, I often leave a 8-10mm side wall. Thanks for watching.
@michaelross87948 күн бұрын
That was one substantial door frame to be able to get all those large pieces from! And, thank you for your methods and techniques. Yesterday I glued up 4 aspen bowls 15cm x 15cm x 8cm blanks with colored veneer in between the two 4cm sandwich like layers...YOUR signature move! They are ready for turning today. I shall see how they turn out.
@RDMWoodturning8 күн бұрын
Very best of luck! The veneer just elevates things. 👍
@michaelross87948 күн бұрын
I turned the first one today and if I run my hand over the veneer line, I can feel it...even with a thick coat of polish. Do you get that too?
@chippychippy82918 күн бұрын
Really nice, how many coats of sanding sealer do you put on? And how long before it is dry?

Just one coat of sealer. It's usually dry in 20-30 seconds! Thanks for watching

Generally found in Europe. There is a limited supply in the UK and yew rarely is available to buy from a saw mill. I have a couple of tree surgeons who occasionally sell me yew.
