Personally, I think a huge amount of why Spain failed and the UK, USA and other anglos won the battle for world supremacy (until recently) is because protestantism was superior to catholicism, prob mostly because of openness to science and the lack of a dominant clergy and pope. I say this as a complete atheist. Could've just been one side won, but I think the different religion was the deciding factor.

No wonder Death Santis doesn't want the real history of FLorida studied by modern youth. Native tribes and black slaves working together against oppressive white men? Yeah, let's keep that suppressed!

I had the pleasure of meeting a Grenadan ExPat once. Very nice gentleman. We got to talking and I was playing the "guess the nationality based off the accent" game that I play with myself (which I'm usually pretty good at) before I asked him where he was from. He said Grenada. I told him I was friends with a guy who was part of that invasion. Dude had *nothing* but good things to say about that (very brief) invasion and America. He was a teenager when it happened and said it changed his whole world for he and his family, and it was the reason he came to the United States and became a citizen.

The US bought all the territory north of the Rio Grande (at a diacount) then GAVE the rest of Mexico back to the Mexicans, leaving only a garrison of troops in Mexico City. Most people don't know just how badly Mexico lost that war because the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was so magnanimous by the standards of the day. There were actually men in Congress who wanted the entirety of Mexico to remain US territory, not just what was north of the river.

Some important information I learned today: The 1983 Beirut barracks bombing happened two days before the invasion of Grenada. Provides a lot of context to why Israel would be one of two countries supporting the US' invasion.

There was also the "black bean incident" in 1842. That was big in a lot of texans eyes at the time although it was a failed offensive on the texans part but the brutality on the mexicans side rallied texans like it was our Boston massacre.

I was three years old, but I am so pleased the US invaded or else my life would have been very different, probably like many Cubans today. I was about three years old and I remember American soldiers searching my house, I asked my mom what they were looking for and she quickly said 'food' LOL, hoping that these white men with guns won't traumatise me much. Obviously, they were looking for something else, LOL. There was one soldier whose face is still in my memory, he winked at me and made me feel at ease.
