If you ground to the hinge, connect to the upper part by the pipe base, because the hinge pin may only conduct in a few spots. Thanks for yet another take on the DIY mast!

I have the same radio I got the road devil power Mic must turn down gain on the radio and run mic half way my modulation maxes out out 100 % but you are taking about a 60$ mic and a 300 watt amp pushing behind it all but for your set up yes take that out is a must
