Joel Garner was one of my first cricket favourite's. I got his picture card from pg tips. Loved watching the great West Indies team. One thing that always seems to be overlooked when making these comparisons is that when Shoaib bowled his 100mph ball at Capetown in 2003 and Thomsons fastest ball in 1975 they both got absolutely hammered and their teams lost by a huge margin. Pakistan failed to qualify for even the semi finals at the 2003 World Cup, and Australia were thrashed by an innings in that match at Perth. Speed doesn't always come out on top, it may get the kids lining up for autographs but historically its far more likely for seam and spin to win matches and series and get the trophy and get a team to the top of the rankings.
