Could just relief cut the bearing inner core with a dremel until it splits and remove the bearing.

I had an LS diff installed on my ram 2500 back in 2005 or so by Randys R&P in Everett WA and it's still working fine. Not sure if it was an Eaton TT. They told me the pinion was turning a little freely but no play so I said just leave it. Not a ton of miles on it at 215k and not a lot of heavy towing but it's still running fine with no apparent issues.

I don't have experience with AAM's unit, it has less pinion support, that's my main problem with it .. and??? This is what I like about the older tried and true 10 1/2" GM Corporate 14 bolt!! :) ... NO SHIMS!! :)

we add shims to the 10.5 to the mating surface of the pinion plate. This is much easier because no bearing need pressing on or off with the 10.5 after setting the preload. The 10.5 is a great design! My son also loved the 10.5 design.

Your new diff cover is detrimental. It doesnt help sling the oil correctly. The inside shape is very important

Thanks for your input, but the ring slings the lube to the pinion bearings. The lube level enables the axles to draw the lube to the hub bearings. The size and shape aids in cooling due to the amount (5 quarts) of lube. Your idea that the shape of the original cover aids in slinging lube to the pinion bearings is also true. I believe the size of this cover is beneficial due to the above listed points. Thanks for your comment.

Subaru sells a similar kit that I've used several times, I think I they were around $18 the last time I got them from the local dealer (SKU SOA868V9315). That cone nozzle makes all the difference, it's amazing how much crud flushes out of the line. Make sure to change cabin air filter too.

These 2001 Vets don't have the cabin air filter, but that is a good point, the cabin air filter should be removed if present. Also thanks for the Subaru cleaner PN. Also, the vent refresh could be sprayed in the cabin filter location if it is before the heater/AC fan.

If it's a small jeep or something, maybe a 10.5 is easier and cheaper and more options. This 11.5 hog is a beast. A rock crawler need a locker in case 1 tire is off the ground. It would be beneficial to see the price of the options you want, then make your choice

The 10.5 I rebuilt has a yoke housing that is bolted on with shims to get the depth correct. You can see the housing nose bolts that hold the yoke housing in. The 11.5 I rebuilt was all cast together. The pumpkin had the rear cover bolted on. That was it, pumpkin was complete. To adjust the pinion depth, I had to shim behind the large pinion bearing the correct the back lash.

The 10.5 pinion has the extra section of shaft sticking out on the top of the pinion gear that sits in a bearing to prevent pinion deflection

Crush sleeve, is separate from the r&p gap shims. The shim is between the gear and the large bearing, which sets the gap between the ring and pinion. The crush sleeve sets the preload on the pinion shaft bearings.

The original was a G80 gm positive traction. The friction-modifier additive is difficult to get correct. This Eaton helical diff is very easy, just use a high grade 80-90 gear lube without a friction-modifier additive. the Eaton, In the rain the posi can pull to 1 side when both tires are spinning like all positraction. Down the freeway it acts like a open diff, I have never felt the Eaton acting up around any corner. The G80 acted up around corners, maybe the friction-modifier additive was insufficient. After taking out the G80, on a quick overview, it looked perfect. Note G80 is: GM RPO Codes - Factory Identification Labels and Interpretation: G80 Axle Positraction, Limited Slip. I enjoy the eaton helical posi. installed in gmc 3500 1997 6.5L and 2001 silverado HD 2500 duamax.
