Recollection of these events in this form is genuinely a revolutionary idea especially in the light of our gradually depleting ideology and standards.

Many of Mrinal Sen's movies were overtly political and if I dare say preachy. They seem to tell you that they are there to convey a message which I didn't like. As far as Ray is concerned he too commented on the politics of the situation, the problems but they were never bitter pills to swallow. You got the message without the message being too obvious. I do agree with Ray when he says that some of the pedantic film makers made films only for festivals. Many of Mrinsl Sen's movies were pedantic and stillborn, in my opinion. Ray was a real humanist and that came out through his movies. As far as his last few films are concerned I think they were far much better than Mrinal Sen's last few movies. They were way superior. As far as sycophants are concerned, everyone has them. I think Mrinal Sen did too. He had his group. I do not think Ray was much affected by the sycophants around him.

Wonderful comments.... Only one thing I. Would like to add... Mr Sen being a refugee from East Pakistan And made films on downtrodden never spoke publicly or in his film the real reason of his gaining Status of a refugee.... The real reason was that in islamic dominated areas, Hindus cannot survive.... He never spoke.... It is a total hypocrisy... RITWICK GHATAK is no better than Mr Sen.... He also made films on the suffering of refugees but remained silent

i feel this generation of bengalis is lost for ever. my uncle who was bit older than him worked in the government in bengal, was not wealthy, but was a playwright and his library was huge and eclectic...when Sen talks of rudolf arnheim it is quite apparent that the generation back in the 50s and 60s were more expansive in their reading yet completely grounded in bengali language and literature. they absorbed what was happening overseas and infused it into their work without copying it...a generation apart.

Agreed, as the scope was wide for them, a space for fresh start, innovative ideas, a sort of compassion for the content was present among them (Ghatak, ray, and the lots). Now that kind of hunger is present among the new wave directors of Bangladesh (Farooki, Raihan Rafi, Syed Shawki, Ashfaque Nipoon, Amitabh Reza Chaudhary etc.). The good lots of here have dissolved into a mediocre spectrum (Mukhrji, Later films of Kaushik Ganguly and others.) Commercial Cinema has lost its originality, grit and innovative dynamics.(Movies like Shatru, Indrajit and even good remakes of south Indian films, Pralay, kranti etc.) But, Its good to see that পুরোনো অঞ্জন দত্ত is back. Hope the Bengalis will soon understand the panoramic presence of West Bengal outside of Kolkata and implement it in their cultural exhibitions more passionately. (Sheshe sob i politics er khela ar ki 😢)

Nimai da, my head is bowed to you for your life long works. You have utterly exhausted your own life for the sake photographing the giant filmmaker. You immortalized yourself along with Satyajit Ray for the spectacular photographs of a man taken in his various moods. Concerned persons to come forward for the preservation of such a precious treasure.

Amazed by the film. Many many thanks to Van Der Werf for making such a wonderful film. Why is the West Bengal Government not coming forward to help Mr Ghosh set up the Gallery? His emotional appeal was poignant and painful least to say.

Bo Van Der Werf thanks a ton for making this documentary about a person (great photo-biographer Nemai Ghosh) who had dedicated his life in shooting the person who was called the maestro of indian cinema and the world would not have seen him in different moods and expressions but for Mr. Nemai Ghosh. However it was very sad to see him saying he would dip all those 90k+ negatives which has captured Ray as he sounded desperate as no one till the time of this film had come forward to save and upkeep his hard work filled with passion and dedication. That happens generally with all those who grows under a giant without the fault of the giant himself as Nemai Ghosh rightly said " he was too immersed in his work "....and aided by Sharmila Tagore too that nothing grows under a great banyan tree. This documentary is perhaps the only one on the ace bio-photographer whose passion , dedication and honesty towards his work was reflected from the Bo Van Der Werf's passion, dedication and honesty towards the making of this documentary- Kudos to you !
