Do you have a video to show how you" cut and bagged" your banana plant?

That banana is edible. It’s not the typical banana we buy in the grocery store. It makes a good snack by boiling and frying. We make a good salad out the banana heart and the inner part of banana tree is an ingredient for a fresh and raw egg roll.

That’s amazing that you have left those bananas in the ground. Would be great to see a video or two on your winterizing process to save everything as it’s gets cold. Your garden looks really good especially since it’s not even in full sun all day.

Ooooh what a BEAUTIFUL Garden!! It’s really inspiring! I’m in the Chicago area, and i would love to better understand what you’re doing to have such big healthy plants. My cannas, which are in pots, keep growing until first frost - I fertilize them with cow manure with peat from Menards when I first put them out in spring, then i usually use miracle grow on them and give them lots of water. I have Royal Hawaiian Elephant ears that I was able to over winter under grow lights, which I was happy about because this year I could not find the dark, deep purple ones in any of the garden centers I go to. I have not had luck with overwintering bananas; my palms look sad…I’m gonna try to learn more from your videos. THANKS!

Living in central Indiana, I find that my cannas and elephant ears multiple so well that I only dig up some of them just to have enough to plant the next year. Saves time and energy.

Beautiful mini tropical jungle path! ❤ great idea! I am in Idaho and this is my first year I have hardy banana trees that I heavily mulched last winter, but they made it! They are about 3 feet high so far. I also have 4 plumeria I overwintered indoors, but have been growing beautifully outdoors on my back patio since mid May.

That's great! I bet plumeria will do better for you in Idaho than they would here in Illinois. That dry summer sun and heat you get out there is probably great for them.

Down in southern PA, bananas are about twice the hieght 15-18ft. If you wanted to get yours taller or even have fruit you gotta trim those bottom leaves to increase growth. Going on 4 years down here, no protection at all just planted close to house. We've gotten 2 clumps of Bananas. Smaller and sweeter than store bought. And yes they are Musa bajoo. Nice bananas btw!

I live in zone 7b and those red bananas are taken in and put into the garage. In the past I’ve cut back everything but the cigar leaf, removed most of the roots, let the roots dry a few days, then potted them in dry potting soil. I’ve also quartered a corm or two, cut most of the roots and repotted them with just the top of the corm showing. Put them in a warm area and waited till new growth before sparing watering. Sometimes this works and you get a mess of new plants, other times fungus gnats get to the roots and you’re left with nothing. Love the way your yard looks. Beautiful job

I doubt most of the bulbs would make it in the ground, but the bananas in back (the big ones) would! After the first hard frost, when the banana yellows off, you saw the trunks off to like 1-2 feet high. Then you wrap the trunk that is left in bubble wrap. Then mulch a big pile of leaves over the top of that (twice as high as trunk), then put a tarp over it. Take the tarp of in the spring and you should be good to go! I actually use plastic fence to make a little perimeter so the mulch will stay piled high enough. Then I put the tarp over the fence.
