People should read Geddy Lee's recent book. He speaks heavily about being friends with Peterson's son before and during RUSH's early days.

Saw ELP several times in late 60s/early 70s. The leaping about over the organ, and stabbing the keyboard was great showmanship, but the highlight was when the other two left the stage and he did a solo 30 minutes at the grand piano where he segued through a huge range of styles of keyboard music. Never seenanyone else do anything like it.

Carl Palmer with the glasses got me going. Had me scratching my head thinking, well he sounds like Palmer....and he looks like Palmer, but never knew or heard Palmer wears glasses. Then I read the video info. Really sad Emerson's gone. Hate to say I can kinda understand why....he was so amazing, and to have that taken from you, that'd be devastating. There's no doubt how much of an influence ELPs music was to the music world.

Its probably fair to say that had yes not existed then Druid wouldn't have had their sound, so it's not surprising they came many years after. And punk was just coming in so this was old hat and not so interesting anymore and similarly for bands like England. But then bands like Rush and Kansas were then playing stadiums. But retrospectively, they did two good albums which stand up ok today and are pleasant enough in themselves. You could also argue that the reason early to mid 80's prog bands like marillion , solstice, IQ, Pendragon etc came to exist, was because the major bands like Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull and various others had abandoned complicated prog for rock/pop, so those bands filled a gap. Makes you wonder what magic the top bands could have created had they stuck to their guns instead, being as most returned to prog later anyway.

Oscar, just one of the most prodigiously gifted musicians of the last century. And Keith, doing things no rock keyboardist was ever really supposed to do. The two of them in one segment - what a treat and total discovery.

Total groundbreakers. There was and had been nothing like it before and we had it all in the 70’s. Modern music seems so dull, samey and banal. There are great singers, but the freshness and creativity has gone before and young people now have to listen to pastiche. If you are in your late 60’s and 70’s you just know.

Such a shock what happened to Keith in the end. The sad irony is that even with his physical ailments he could probably still outdo most players out there. His composing and electronic skills had to still fit in somewhere. Anyone remember the music from super Mario brothers 2. My kids had it and I’m pretty sure Keith did the music. It was publicized at the time.

Well now, I guess Derek got more than his share of pu$$y in the day. You never think of prog musicians that way. Such a wealth of material documented from the people that eventually formed the legendary GG.

HOLD THE PHONE. KZfaq just algorithmed this on me. I figured that Mr. Emerson was familiar with Mr. Peterson’s material… but they met!? AND PLAYED TOGETHER!? 🤯🎹 And this is the only time that I’ve seen Mr. Emerson perform without acting like he owned the show. Wow. 😮

I heard THE THREE FATES back in 1970 (71?) and ATTEMPTED to describe the music to people - unsuccessfully, of course. I only heard the music; didn't know who or what it was. It drove me NUTS. When I finally found out what it was, I bought the album, post-haste. I still contend that this was his best. His following two albums were also great. I never could, however, figure out how much of his works were original, and how much were derivative. It kinda DIDN'T MATTER; he made the music his own. GENIUS. R.I.P.

Nico's look is so hardcore for the time. I wonder if the Costume Designer or even Stephen King thought of Nico when deciding on Piper Laurie's look in the film 'Carrie'?

Sean Carroll mentioned this on YT, so here I am, and I've got tears in my eyes. I briefly met Oscar, but I befriended Keith a couple years before the end. This recording is really special. It is the first I've seen the crane setup he used to do live. But to see him as nervous as I was to meet him while meeting Oscar really touched my heart. They're both monsters in their own right. They both changed my life for the better, as I wouldn't be where I am without them. They'll be missed Gr8! Peace ☮💜Love

Nobody mentions The Nice! Before ELP came The Nice and they were the hot live band of the 60s. Just great on stage. I seen them everywhere and ELP didn't quite compare for me. Check out 'Hang on to a dream' at the Beat club and listen to 'Rondo 69' in New York. RIP Keith, a great loss.
