Exactly what I will do. I thought about annealing it but I want to keep the hardness. Also thought about EDM or chemical etching but that wouldn't be very exact. This seems simple enough and precise.

@@AdrianDIY KZfaq Shorts are where you pick up most of your subscriptions from. All you got to do is make a decent video in portrait rather than the usual landscape. Make sure the video is under 60 seconds and then upload as usual. When you upload, YT will automatically grade it as a Short so nothing further for you to do. If the video is decent you should get a couple of thousand views and perhaps a couple of subscribers. Keep repeating to build on the numbers.

I think you did a good job. As far as it being tight for the bolt head. What I would do is to cut a few groves into the bolt head with a hacksaw, to give some channels for the plastic to grip onto the head. Then I would heat the bolt head hot enough so it can partially melt the plastic. Then press the head into the plastic. I would try this on the first print to see how it goes before trying it on the better part. I had tried to do some plastic molding. I did not have a mold machine. The mold I made was for a dome for a light sensor. It was 50mm in diameter. I had virgin ground plastic that I placed in the mold then heated the mold in a toaster oven. When hot enough I pulled it out and put it on a drill press table and I used the chuck to press down on the top of the mold. I had a couple of holes in the mold that allowed the excess plastic to flow out. I held it until it was cool enough (but still hot) to remove the part. Pulling it off before it cooled completely allowed for easier extraction. I worked as an electronic designer and this was what I did to get some prototype parts. I'm retired now so I'm only working on hobby projects.

@@AdrianDIY That's fantastic! Many such machines of similar proportion feature a much more limited Z axis. What do you reckon the largest stock dimension you can address completely? Do you have a build log documenting the construction of your machine?
@AdrianDIY
@AdrianDIY Жыл бұрын
Stock dimensions are same as travel for X and Y, for Z is dependent how deep is machining features on material, if is down to table stock is less than half of travel. I don't have a build log, was made years ago on the fly...

This type of operation is much like turning. Because your cutting point is moving away from the center of rotation, your C axis rotation should be slowing. It looked to be staying steady so your actual feed rate (the rate at which the material was being fed into the tool was increasing greatly. Good attempt though!
