I’m headed to Seattle now! From Miami. 25 days and 1100 miles in. I’m not worried about where to stay or people being dangerous. Just loving the experience. Really enjoyed your video. Here is my list. I’m a bit behind. kzfaq.info/sun/PLlUsEKWuEwx6cojZc9IxUFAB_KU54m9ZD&si=ctZy0tV5asSeeyAC

I worked for the Rep. of China Pavilion as the Chief Hostess during the Fair. It's was so much fun! I met my husband during the fair, a dashing young attonory of Spokane. The following year I reutrn to Spokane from Taiwan and we got merried. I am flying back to Spokane tomorrow to celebrate this very personal and exciting event. Wachting this nice video made my very happy. Thank you Prof Young, you kept Expo 74 alive.

I take it you did this trip in 1985 and had colour slides as your only visual record. I did a trip in 1986 and too had colour slides as my only record of California Oregon Washington Canada the rockies and back to LA all by bicycle staying in campgrounds state parks friends houses and motels. It was a great cycle ride over 6 months.

Really curious about the bikes you two rode. One has "Schwinn" emblazoned on the cross bar, certainly not typical as it usually resided on the down tube. It does however resemble a Chicago built, electro-forged frame and with side-pull brakes could this one possibly be a Varsity?

I spent four years writing a 500 page book about the fair -- The Fair and the Falls: Spokane's Expo '74 -- and yet I still learned things I did not know watching Beckett's excellent film!

I was only 4 in '74 but I remember my dad and my uncle rode their bikes from Seattle to Spokane as part of an organized event that was part of expo '74.

This was great! Excellent story with awesome shots. It's unfortunate they couldn't cross Lake Washington. At least you have this video and pictures to keep these memories alive!!
