Its, low priced, takes pretty good photos, is compact, easy to bring anywhere and simple to use as long as you level it before using. 15 minutes after opening box, was taking photos. I have a larger, much larger telescope, is pain to move around, harder to get up and running and I lost interest. I set the s50 in backyard, go in house and start finding deep space objects while on my couch. Cant wait until they release the newer seestar.

That's it. These dissenters made me change my mind. They should spend some more money into launching a space telescope to get photos as good or better than those from the Hubble telescope. Terrestrial telescopes are just toys with serious limitations. 😂

The gatekeeping makes no sense. Would be like introducing someone to gaming, and they wanna pick up a preowned PS3 and saying ''no you gotta get a £3000 gaming PC with 128GB RAM and an Nvidia RTX4090Ti''. Let people enjoy the cheaper one/easier one and it'll be a gateway into more serious stuff.

what is the cheapest telescope/tracking that I can get?? I have a 70mm 600mm refractor, and I really want to put my dslr on it. But it has no tracking. So what is the absolutely cheapest I can go with a telescope and tracker I can put my dslr on?
@ianlauerastro
@ianlauerastro 3 күн бұрын
I would recommend starting with a lens and a star tracker like the Sky-Watcher star adventurer. You don't need a cheap telescope for deep space photography - a long focal length lens is a great starting place.

@@ianlauerastro That is already 4 times more expensive than a bresser 80/400mm goto that is only 450 dollars. I need the cheapest since im really low on money, and need to safe for a month or two. I know sky watcher is top class, but it is just to fricking expensive to get everything I need

This piece of kit is amazing, id given up on setting up my 10" reflector, nearly droping counter weights on my feet only eventually after ages of getting it set up and freezing my Butt off. to have to pack it all away again, and go indoors indoors thoughly disgruntled because it had clouded over, ------then to have my partner say " did you have any good viewings!!" 😡 WELL NO MORE!

Hi, Love your videos and I can't wait to go out and start taking pics again. I have a fuji gfx 100s and was wondering if this adapter is what I need. Wide (48mm) Low Profile T-Ring for Fuji GFX. Sorry for the newbie question. Thanks!
@ianlauerastro
@ianlauerastro 3 күн бұрын
You'll need a GFX to Wide T/M48 adapter to be able to attach your GFX to a telescope with an m48 thread on the back. Keep in mind you will always have harsh vignetting because most lower cost astrophoto telescopes have an image circle that support (at max) a full frame sensor. You'll have to spend a pretty penny to get telescopes (and supporting equipment) that can support a medium format sensor size.

@@ianlauerastro Thanks for the the info! I see what I did. in the other video you had a borg... $4500... yeah that is expensive. For the telescope above, any recommendation on a dedicated astro camera that you would recommend. Still thinking full frame
@ianlauerastro
@ianlauerastro 3 күн бұрын
@@akikopagkos1 There's a lot to unpack when it comes to deep space astro. Full frame is great, and is doable on the RedCat 51 telescope I use in this video. If you're looking at a one shot color full frame astro camera, I'd recommend the ZWO ASI6200MC Pro camera - it's a beast. Of course you can go down the monochrome camera route with specific filters, but that becomes very expensive with such a large sensor!

People miss the point. This is $450 of joy and fun. And yes, to newbies, they'll get more enjoyment for their $500 out of this, than a monster 8" Dob that barely fits in their Honda. Is it going to eclipse a $4500 astrophotography setup? Of course not. If you get 90% cloudy nights in Ohio? $450 is about the right price. This is a taste of the future for the old timer blowhards who don't like that their $8000 of equipment isn't going to be as relevant some day.

Great video with excellent points. As someone who has been doing Astrophotography for almost a year now, and someone who purchased a Seestar S50 as my first (and current) telescope, I can say these gate keeping comments are just dumb, illogical, and don't really make sense to me. Why push people away from the community? That being said, I love my Seestar and the fact that a beginner like myself can get a pretty good quality, all in one telescope that is extremely beginner friendly is pretty awesome. I have learned a ton through my own trial and error as well as through online forums and KZfaq videos. I am even now confident in getting a newer telescope with a bigger aperture. Spending hundreds of dollars on a telescope, camera, and tracking mount out of the blue as a beginner can be scary if you don't know what to do, and I am very confident in saying the Seestar is a great first step for anyone wanting to get into the hobby and start learning at your own pace.

When I was a kid, I participated in astronomy classes. During the summer we've been spending nights on the roof of the school with our teacher, taking photos of the Moon, Jupiter and the sky. We've been using telescopes from the 60s and cameras from the 60s with black and white films. No electronics at all. No automatic mounts, sky trackers, etc. My question is then - why is it fine to use a lot of equipment (digital cameras, coolers for the camera, automatic tripods that follow the sky, use digital post-processing techniques, etc.) but it is not fine to use the state of the art automatic telescope like this one? This sounds like double standards. You either give people freedom to choose what they sincerely want or go make yourself a telescope (like Newton) and use it. Btw, when I was a kid, I made my own telescope. It was shit but a lot of fun. It gave about x10 magnification. :D

Hey! I've been using an Orion XT10 for about the past 3 years. I want to get into astrophotography, but this scope just isn't it. I also want something portable, and im not very worried about aperture anymore. Would it be a smart move to sell my scope and buy an entry level Go-To EQ? I've been watching one on Explore Scientific for about 500 USD that really interests me. Whole kit, comes with an 80mm refractor and an adapter for a DSLR I already own.
@ianlauerastro
@ianlauerastro 10 күн бұрын
It depends on your goals. The Explore Scientific GoTo is not amazing for astrophotography, and you'll likely end up upgrading sooner rather than later. I always recommend folks starting with a star tracker like the Sky Watcher GTI, and using a lens or wide-field telescope (redcat 51 or similar) as it's an easy entry point that you can still use, even as you upgrade to larger equipment. I have a video for people getting into Deep Space AP that should help: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rt9lrNljldOXl3U.htmlsi=crj0RJT0oo0Wh_RH
