The song is called "Departed" by As I Lay Dying. It's off of their album "An Ocean Between Us. Its pretty much a 2 min instrumental interlude.

I am not into Metal music really but this playlist is seriously so good. I have looked up other metal guitar solo playlists and none even compare. It’s like you actually got the best metal guitar solos at least for my taste. Also fermented offal discharge is insane. I listen to that one over and over again.

That entire necrophagist album is musical bliss. From beginning to end every instrument compliments one another and the use of odd time signature actually makes sense and isn't just random speed riffing. It has so much soul. That cd is the entire reason I purchased a set of pearl customs & axis peddle set. Still trying to learn all the leads on guitar but have all rhythm & drums down for the most part.... I'm convinced it's our generations Beethoven as far as guitars are concerned.

I really don't get these lists. It's like someone making a "top classical music parts" video and not mentioning Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and etc. What about Helloween, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabath, Dream Theater...?

Because then they would all be the same? These lists are subjective and this one is of my own choosing. I'm sure there are tons of lists with old school metal on it, but I've moved on from Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Dream Theater. Not much point in living in the past when it comes to music.

I don't understand the obscura velocity solo is he using a pitch shift at the end there? or is he pick tapping it??

Special technique, and it can be played live, but a computer is used in this recording to get the best sound. Morean frets a harmonic across the fret with is right hand, and taps with the left on frets that are between the nut and the right hand (sorry if bad explanation). You can see good use of it on the music video or live videos of Alkaloid - Cthulhu

All excellent choices but you can't have a best solo list without Dime, Holt, or Mustaine. Any one of those guys could have a top 10 list of their own that would blow away almost anyone.

I am unbelievably pumped that BTBAM made the top of your list. BTBAM is my favorite band and was my father's favorite band. We saw them live about a year before he passed and they came out for an encore to play White Walls and we had the time of our lives. Great list, my friend.
