Is there a reason why the "knuckles" is pushing against the back of the head instead of the palm? I recently started to do Judo again after a long time (10 year ish) and I reallly like this chanel its been very helpful.

Will this work on people who are 6 inches taller?

Well, i'm not a judoka, but i think that if you are equally strong, this technique would even benefit shorter guys because it's easier to put your center of gravity below his and lift him up, obvioulsy it's not that simple, but i think this can be used

@@ThyReap3rlol, english is not my first language srry hahahah, tbh the response stills the same, the technique relies more in strength and precision rather than height, it also depends on the opponent size

It's possible because the shorter guy has lower centre of gravity. However, you have to train your strength to make sure you can lift the taller guy.

What if the throw and your body weight land on his neck while his flipping over Wouldn’t that paralyze him?

Potentially...but when practicing Judo in this way, we do so as a sport meaning we treat our training partners and opponents with respect...we also learn how to breakfall and how to protect our head and body when being thrown.

Judo isn’t dangerous: looks at my toes and fingers
@TheJudoWayofLife

Mine are mangled as well...but that's not Judo's fault...it's mine for pushing the level at which I practice Judo and for grip fighting. I could have just learnt and practiced Judo at a lower tempo and my fingers and toes would most likely have remained the same shape and pointed in the same direction (but wheres the fun in that)!

@TheJudoWayofLife 7 күн бұрын
It depends on you training program and life schedule...if you can only do a session like this once a week, do that because it's better than zero times...if you are in a position to train more and your goals align with that, train everyday...without all the variables it's hard to give an exact answer.

What reasons would someone do this throw instead of an uchi mata? Or uchi mata instead of this throw? Is it a matter of how wide the opponents legs are, or hip position? Thanks for the help.

I agree...I've never thought of it as a dangerous throw until spending more time researching Tani Otoshi on the internet (that's where I went wrong!!)...it baffles me why someone would do that as well, but if I try to look at it through the eyes of someone learning the throw and not fully understanding and just reacting in a situation then I sort of see it "making sense".

The only time it feels dangerous to me is when I try to counter it with ouchi and flick my leg under theirs, as the tallest dude in the gym I feel like everyone is constantly trying to tani me every time I try a turn throw 😢

I never thought it to be dangerous until I learned a while ago what you mentioned in the video- when tori sits on uke's thigh for some stupid reason. In that case it is absolutely a cause for injury, but why tori would continue the throw after getting into such an uncomfortable position makes no sense to me.
