Are you the owner? Only the owner of the site can see the custom menu.

@@GregWallis is it through a Google workspace? And if it is then Google site has to be turned on in the workspace and you have to have the ability to add a custom domain.

When you go to your settings, to Custom Domains, it shows up there? How long ago did you connect it? If it shows there, highlight the url and right click and go to site or check it in incognito mode and clear cache and cookies.

If you purchase an enterprise account where you get a url email. But that would be separate from what email does to what a Google site does.

It's weird. It's seems for me that as of June 2024, the 'Custom Domains' option in Google Sites is no longer there. I had the ability to do this pre-Squarespace, but not anymore? I'm the Super admin for the Google Sites, owner of the Google Site page in question, and also an admin on Squarespace... Hm.

@@CarolsTechnology Yes. As I said, I'm admin for both Google Sites and the Domain Registrar, so permissions isn't an issue. I did figure it out though, but I'm not sure if I'm on an old iteration (I'm based in Canada) or if my steps will be rolled out eventually for everyone. My subdomain settings are now all in the Admin Console, under Apps > Google Workspace > Sites > Custom URL. It's actually kinda handy to have everything in one space, accessible from the admin console. All the subdomains are there, along with their respective target URLs. With this setup, the other thing I have to do is set up CNAME records the same way you've mentioned in your tutorial video.

No one would have access to your Google site URL unless you provided it to them. You can’t delete it or not make it public because you want to visible with your new URL - people wouldn’t be able to find the Google site url

Selective sync is not available in Google Drive File Stream, but it was previously available in the Google Drive Sync app. However, you can customize your Drive for desktop settings to exclude files from syncing: On your computer, open Drive Click Menu Settings Preferences Advanced Settings Check or uncheck the file type boxes to sync or ignore files www.multcloud.com/tutorials/google-drive-selective-sync-1234.html

You go to a site like Squarespace or GoDaddy and search for what you want the name of your website to be then you purchase it. With the second domain, I would think it would be redirecting it from where you purchase the domain name not from the Google site. I can do more research into this and get back to you

I just checked and it is only in the enterprise edition. I try to be better about that when I make a video, saying which edition. Google Meet is available though, you could record in a Meet which will automatically save your recording in your Google Drive. I apologize about that!!

Hi Carol, I have a question. I cant seem to un-verify my ownership so I can get the first CNAME record to enter (the one with the gv- at the start) to put in my DNS. Is that part neccesary or it it just to verify as it auto verified me as I was using the same google account?

Try clearing your cache and cookies and make sure your browser is up-to-date. Also, are you in Chrome or edge or Firefox? Sometimes features within Google apps don’t work if you’re not using Chrome.

I think google is absurd to think that after I have spent time organizing my documents, etc. into folders that suddenly, they know better than I do how I want everything to be arranged, and that they know better than I do what is 'easier' for me in finding my documents, etc. If I wanted a long, unsorted list of items on my drive, I would never have bothered making folders in the first place. Thank you for helping me get back to my drive, and my folders, and my system for finding things.

I love your comment! How you have to look at Google is that they have development teams for every single app which is always looking to improve on that specific app whether it’s Docs, Sheets, Slides and even Drive. I think these development teams are just trying to keep on doing updates to keep themselves relevant and to keep their product relevant to let the public know that they are always thinking about what they are doing. That’s why I do my videos to help the public stay on top of all the constant changes that are always happening. But I still feel we have to appreciate Google because of the free version and how a really great product it is .

My Google Site is a portfolio that took 200 hours to create. Now I find that Google removed the Publish / included domain they had when they first roped me into designing on Google Sites. I don’t have the time or money to get a paid domain because my job applications are due now. This will take several days and I don’t even have any confidence that all that organization and formatting will transfer over without having to redesign. Google’s “create domain name” feature is disabled but it is still there, so you keep trying and it tells you are doing it wrong. Google really pulled a sh*tty move with this one.
