What a powerful presentation. Storytellers are our historians and keepers of the culture. Art is an important expression of documenting our history for all to see. Thank you!

Hi Mali, I just love your story. Your quilt was probably one of the first weighted quilts, in a way. The piece behind you on the wall is fabulous. ☀

Fabulous quilt, Julie. The central lily is not an "alba" lily (alba just means "white" in Latin). It looks like a classic Oriental lily, the one most of us are familiar with is the good old Easter lily. It is a pity this video is so grainy, hoping someone can do a nice high def shoot of the quilt and add it to this video as it would be lovely to examine all the details of the motifs.

Emma, this was wonderful! I'm definitely a traditional quilter, but I can appreciate inspiration and dedication when I see it! And one thing I really loved was that so many of these quilters are young people. You're right--quilting is not dying, even if it's morphing. And I was amazed to see that Merikay Waldvogel is also a modern quilter (I've known her personally for many, many years and had no idea!) as well as a quilt historian. These quilts were definitely the creme de la creme.

Tyfs 🩷 You mentioned cotton rayon. I have an old family quilt ( still in pieces ) it might be this fabric? I'm not familiar with it but find it feels different than a cotton or cotton/ poly blend. I thought it was a cheap cotton but now I'm not so sure.
@michelemuska59483 ай бұрын
If your quilt was started around the 1930's it certainly could be rayon cloth. Rayon became popular to use in stead of silk because of the high costs.

I'm watching this video and I'm wondering why you have such a low view count and I think it's because of the title if you Google a title and see how many views that particular title gets you going to get more hits this is a beautiful video and it should be over a thousand people watching it that's just my two cents
