Lmao, you have no idea what 4 to 5 footers are, that tiny boat would not handle them well at all. As for line management, learn to use a single spring line tossed to the dockmaster and cleated. No one should need to grab your docklines from shore. You need someone to train you for sure.

I have to laugh at some of the comments here. I enjoyed the video and there are some things to learn from all this. To all who say obviously you dont know what rough water is or those waves aren't as big as you say, obviously they havent been on a 34ft+ cruiser before. The waves dont look as large because the camera is likely nearly 8ft above the surface, there is no break water, and you are looking out over a bow thats likely near 25ft in front of you. Its a little different than being 2ft above the water and looking over a short bow. My question to the narrator is, does your refrigerator not have a door lock/latch? My Sea Ray does.

My boat has a plastic lock on it, and in rough water it does not hold. I installed a strap with a snap on it. That holds.

@boatingwithdrifter5241 ah. Well then bravo sir. I have a local lake that is a common challenge for me as it is a "three finger" lake and at times gets a strange hydrodynamic issue I call the "washing machine". No white caps, but a large 3ft tumbling chop. It looks harmless, until you get in to it and all the rules change. We'll done captain! Happy horizons to you sir.

Thanks great video i just viewed it now, I don think many people are aware of how the conditions on the great lakes are. The local paper in Toronto ran a piece on Lake Ontario and how pleasure boating has exploded post covid and this has added a whole group of inexperienced boaters to Lake Ontario and Toronto Harbour. Thanks for the view of the Livingston channel

Four foot waves sound like quite an adventure. I'm not confident that my small 26 footer would do well in seas that rough. Which app do you use to tell you of the water conditions before you cruise?

Hey Drifter, thanks for the great content, love your videos! Wondering if you could give advice - i'm looking to move from a 20ft fishing boat to a cruiser with a space for family but also keep it for occasional fishing/trolling on Erie. Would you recommend any specific boats? I was considering SeaRay Weekender as these seem to be popular for mounting additional rod holders. Also would need something with twin engine to occasionally troll at low speeds of 1.5-3mph. What is your approximate speed in gear with 1 or both engines, do you think these speeds with a boat that size is feasible?

Nice job. You've and your Mom got guts !! Must have good confidence in your boat. My 'new to me' boat has had some mechanical issues since I got it last year. Fingers crossed that they are behind me now. I'd like to make that trip to PIB and Cedar Point from Lake St Clair this summer on my 35' Maxum. I've done it several times on my previous 26 footer. Would be nice to have a buddy boat to make the trip with in case something goes wrong.

Memorial Day weekend was comfortable temperature wise but the ol Lake Erie sure was angry even on the south shore. I never got my boat out until Saturday afternoon when it started to calm down. I had back surgery in March and can't take a chance getting beat up by the waves just yet. I have reservations for Historical Weekend at Millers. I love that place!

Nice job. Yeah, I like using Marine tex for gel coat repairs as well. Another trick I use for rub marks on hull is use a little bit of lacquer thinner for light spots. Saves you from removing a bit of the gel coat with compound. the thinner will not hurt the gel coat as long as you do not use a large amount. and be sure to wipe it completely off.

I've been using Jescar Polymer sealant the last few years and really liking its durability compared to wax. I usually use a light polish to clean up the hulls then seal it each year. I agree a heavy compound every year is too much and can wear down the gel coat. Interested to see the next video on finishing up and waxing. Your hull looks nice and shiny in the videos already.

Pretty decent waves around 9:00 I bet that was pretty nerve-racking. We took our 18-foot Lyman up one year when I was a kid. We had no clue what we were doing. We didn't check the weather, wave conditions, or anything. I don't think our life jackets were any good, either. No radio. We head out from the Portage River, not too bad. 2 to 3 feet. We start getting out there, the Lyman's doing great, so we head out to Put in Bay. We get there, some other small boats anchored, Perch fishing, I guess. The waves were building, but we got to an area that was kinda covered. When we left, we came around the corner. All the boats were long gone. I know it had to be bad because we didn't see a single boat on the way back. We had to have been in at times, 6 to 8-footers. It was windy. On a Sunday afternoon in August, the lake's empty. My dad and brother were nervous, and with me driving, I couldn't show I was, too. Even a bigger boat, like yours, would've been having a slow ride in that. As we got closer to shore, luckily, the waves started getting smaller. I think you know what I mean, after at least an hour and a half of driving in that, having to pay attention every second to every wave, I've never been more mentally exhausted in my life. Like running a marathon with your brain. It's foolhardy to take on Lake Erie. You did a good job!

Great idea Ian. This was my first fall to winterize the 340 that I purchased in August. I used a small compressor to blow the water out of my system to get rid of as much water as possible. Then I opened the valve on the water heater and used a Shop Vac to suck as much remaining water as I could from the water heater. Like you, I don't like the idea or just releasing water into the bilge. Thanks for sharing this tip with us. Hope the winter is short here in Ohio.
