Hi, I have just bought a mirrix loom and am exploring warp cotton…I have some 16/2, and am wondering if that is ok for small projects at 8 epi.

I think that is too fine. We use seine twine 12/6 and 9/6 which is probably twice as thick.

On another Mirrix playlist, the video on warping says to thread the warp through the same part of the coil twice if you want to use the shedding device. On this video, there's no mention of that. I'm also not sure why, but the shed appears to be above the bar when I turn the shedding device one way, and below the bar when I rotate it. Is that normal?
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms 2 ай бұрын
That is when bead weaving using the shedding device. For tapestry, you only need one warp thread in each warp coil. While warping you need to be really careful not to cross your warp threads.

Sooooooo, don’t tighten the warp tension until the heddles have been installed??? Can’t feed my second group of heddles as the warp tension is too taught. Am I correct in my thinking?
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms 2 ай бұрын
We recommend tightening some after you initially warp (if necessary, it depends on how tightly you wrap around the loom) and then tightening again once you've finished with the heddles and lowered your warping bar. You can adjust your tension anytime, so if you find your warp is too tight to too loose before putting on the heddles or while weaving, you can loosen or tighten as needed.

Can I ask why you would want to use both the Shasta combs and the coils together? I am new to tapestry weaving and trying to get my head around it! Is there a method which uses just the top and bottom coils, or Shasta combs with a shedding device for tapestry weaving? I am not bothered about continuous warping at this stage.
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms 5 ай бұрын
The Shasta Combs are only currently available at 8 EPI, so if you want a different sett (different spacing of your warp) than that, but still want the quick warping and warp saving advantage of the Shasta Combs, you would use this method.

How do you finish the ends of the threads on the beaded item when you have used the “S” shaped ends to warp around. They leave a gap between thread end loop and the beads?
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms 7 ай бұрын
Once you remove the piece from the loom, the tension is released and there should be just enough room for the beads to spread out a bit to fill those spaces. You can find the full tutorial for this project here: mirrixlooms.com/pages/the-pink-lily-wire-bead-bracelet

Do you mean with or without the shedding device? For pieces with wire warp, I always use the No Warp-Ends Kit (shown here) which cannot be used with the shedding device. Generally speaking, it really just depends on the project/how I feel. I enjoy weaving more with the shedding device, but set-up takes longer.

Could you provide a video that demonstrates this for getting that first row of beads on to a larger tapestry? I’m really struggling, here!! I’m getting the idea from your video but would like to see your method repeated over and over….(in my case over 200 some-odd warp threads)!
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms 10 ай бұрын
I've put that on our list! The concept is the same regardless of the width of a piece, however. Start your sections (as small as you want) as shown here just as you would on a wider piece. The first row is always the most difficult! Once you get past that, it's much, much easier.

Thank you for a great video. I recently got my Mirrix. I have a question about the warp bar. You said it it to be pulled down a few inches from the bottom bar. It it;s purpose is to allow you to work an extra long piece and you already pulled it down, how to you then move your beaded work to the back? Thanks.
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms
@mirrixtapestryandbeadlooms Жыл бұрын
The purpose of pulling the warping bar down for continuous warping is both to allow you to weave a longer piece and to allow you to set the height of your weaving at a comfortable level. Once you are ready to move your piece, you loosen your tension and slowly move the bar up the back of the loom, moving the piece to the back. More on this here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aNKlqK9y1LG8aZc.html

You need to direct your customers to Noreen Crone-Findlay’s video for putting heddles on a mirrix loom. Without her video I would have thrown my mirrix into the trash. You need to make things easy for the weaver or bead maker. The product is only as good as the ease of use. She saved my day with her fool-proof method.

Thank you for your feedback! Noreen is wonderful and so are her videos. We are always striving to make using our looms as simple as possible and to make sure the set-up and warping process is clear. We totally understand that there is a learning curve and do have a ton of resources available to show people how to warp and use their loom including .PDF and video warping instructions, blog posts (there's a great one on heddle troubleshooting) and we have a new How to Warp video series this month! We're also always here to help if you need it!

You can, but they are set at 8 end per inch so they aren't ideal for most bead sizes. You can double warp with them (like this: mirrixlooms.com/blogs/mirrix-blog/weaving-beads-on-the-saffron-pocket-loom) but I wouldn't purchase them specifically for bead weaving.
