As a trainee surveyor with the then BR I got to visit the archive at Paddington and see some of Brunels original engineering drawings. Every one of them was a work of art in itself.

Any details on where all these flights are coming from and going too? Plus, Heathrow is a regional hub, and therefore more resilient than most other airports. How does it compare to East Mids, for example?

I’m the 6th person so far to think….”Hold up Dr Foyle…it was Dvorak not Elgar whose music was used on the Hovis ad..”. And I’m no historian. A bit lazy Dr Foyle. If you didn’t know it as a fact don’t accept the slapdash research coming out of the production team. Not Simon Scharma quality….. Ho hum.

To be fair. Brunel was wrong about his enormous gage. That’s broader then Iberian Gage and even the Spanish are are moving away from it (all Spanish high speed tracks are standard gage)

At 00:35:01 10 miles!? - roughly the furthest you'd be able to travel in a day? I can walk 8 miles in roughly 2 hours, well, I _used_ to be able to before my arthritis kicked in... So, I probably say that the most you could realistically travel in a day would be around 20/25 miles. Obviously about double that with a steed I imagine? Anyway, just being pedantic! No gripes or anything! ✌😁👍 Great documentary. Also like the use of Kate Bush in the soundtrack! (Possibly something mellow by Aphex Twin too? Not certain, but it _sounds_ like AFX at least...)🤔 🎵🤷‍♂🎶⁉

In case the reader doesn't know, the BBC held a contest years ago to find the best Briton. Celebs did films like this one championing the great and good; somebody did Thatcher, Lennon was another, Churchill won it. Brunel came second which he might not have done without Clarkson's fantastic film

For once Clarkson subordinates himself to his subject and talks about something that matters. The result is the best piece of television he ever made.

This was an excellent show. Thank you for making it. I had no idea of who Brunel was and now I cannot believe I have never heard of him. Our education system needs to get back to focus on great people instead of popular people. We need to nurture the smart kid in schools, instead of pandering to sub average kid. The smart kid will pull us all forward.

Churchill, who by his own surfeiting and gluttony became financially distressed by 1935, was bailed out & subjugated thereby unto his zionist pharisee & their leftist white lackeys, refused every peace offer, & demonstration of mercy proferred by Hitler. Thus, his directives from his pharisee puppet masters, & his own ego put himself & Britain in a position to be fighting alone - until he could drag the U.S. in with him. The British Empire, which he & Hitler claimed to love so much, he liquidated to the Roosevelt administration, to finance his war upon Germany.
