You will get better transmit signal with colinear antenna but this saves you money. I'm a disabled USMC vet that can't work but tinkers all day with my radios 73 AA4CP Fort Pierce FL on the beach

Question. If I already have omnirig, HDSDR and Log4OM loaded, then it appears that wsjt-x can no run concurrently because uses Hamlib. When I test the rig control it yields a Hamlib error. Further, if I start by running swjt-x, unload it and then try to run the usual omnirig stuff, the ports don't work unless I reboot. Hmmmm.

This video great. It is exactly what I was looking for building a tap for my tinySA.
@KenonharpАй бұрын
In this video you are running what I assume is omnirig v1.x with HDSDR. Sadly omnirig v1.x support was removed with HDSDR v2.8 - a real pain... I am not sure how stable the current HDSDR beta, which once again allows omnirig v.1x, is at this point. This is significant since you can not run LOG4OM with omnirig 2. Oh the joys of battling developers...

Could you do another video about the "bonded test"? The "common bonding adapter"? Anytime I ask in the stores about grounding they said it wasn't necessary at all so I would love to have more information from someone who actually knows about this. Can you not only discuss the testing but the adapter itself and how to use it? Thank you so much for this video It really was exceptionally helpful for me. 🙌
@jaybdvm9 күн бұрын
You might be referring to an adapter, which plugs into the generator outlet, that connects the white and green leads in the outlet. Some furnaces and other equipment will not work without this adapter. Many people make their own.

Hi Julia, Admittedly, the use of the System Rescue CD can be a bit of a steep learning curb. That said, it offers a full solution to many issues that real world windows techs run into everyday. There may be solutions that might give you a nice point and click interface, but I've never seen one that is free... The System Rescue CD is free, and following the instructions step by step will lead you to a successful result a high majority of the time. Most end users will never run into this in a lifetime, and many service professionals may only see it once in a decade. A free solution seems the best fit. At least that's my opinion, Stu AG6AG

That's unnecessarily complex. Will just run F.D. from WSJT-X and use their log instead of N1MM's log. Using Grid Tracker makes for a nice map that catches the public's eye.

Hi Richard, In our case, we run 15 or so stations and want real time consolidation of the Field Day log. This solution does that. But you certainly can just take the log out of WSJTx and make your entries that way. Stu AG6AG

At around 14:30 you might say that YOU WILL NOT see the drivers UNLESS you connect your pc to the radio. THEY WILL REMAIN HIDDEN. This one drove me nuts. I'd download the drivers, install then, and then look for them... THEY WOULD NOT SHOW. You must connect the computer to the radio.

Hi Stu Love the video, GReat information. The question I have is not about VARA, but about your video production. I was wonder how you captured your desktop and you were working and used it as your backdrop? Im familiar with how green screen works and that side of it but was wondering what software you used for screen capture and so on. Thanks
@AG6AG2 ай бұрын
Hi Chris, I use OBS studio for the majority of the uncut production recording. Many times I am also capturing a full screen of a VM running on HyperV. If I need to actually access ports and other things to illustrate identifying and configuring devices and I don't want to mess with settings that work on my main system, I spin up a old laptop with NDI pumping the video out to OBS. And then I do all final editing in Open Shot. And yes, it's all free software (other then the Window Pro licenses). Hope that helps! Stu AG6AG

Hi, Every antenna you have is "sized" for the frequency of interest you are working with. If the antenna isn't setup correctly for the frequency you are trying to use, your transmitting signal and reception will be sub standard. We are actually only dealing with a receiver when using the SDR, but properly matching the antenna to a 50 ohm impedance at the frequency of interest vastly improves our reception. If you are really interested in the science, try this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z9SdldCpya-XqqM.htmlsi=lcSzS2N5jRYm82sE Stu AG6AG

TOTALLY frustrated with Log4OM. Not a single video or ANY Documentation on how to set Log4OM for "ARRL Field DAY". Perhaps it can't. I see no facility for entering "Class or Section". Amazing, for an otherwise good Logger. You'd think there would be at least a way to build your own template. Too bad.
@AG6AG2 ай бұрын
Hi Wirewizard, Yeah, Log4OM is a great daily logger with amazing auto import and export capabilities... It kicks butt on getting all the info you could ever want for a QSO. That said, it falls short with contest logging. My use N1MM+ for all the contests I participate in and have great results. I strongly recommend it for Field Day. I have a few videos on it at well: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gJuJrdpkrpmwipc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qK2ZddKkl7-cZaM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jcmnaLlyrtysj6s.html There are a few more but this should get you going for field day. Hope this helps! Stu AG6AG

I did the exact same thing as you except with a RG-8x wrapped 43 toroid (total cost $20) vs the MFJ-915 RF isolator (retail $55) the best I could get was -18 db on the MFJ but the toroid was around -28. The difference of wrapping a toroid vs cramming as many ferrite beads into a PVC pipe.

@AG6AG2 ай бұрын
Hello Siddharth, Aliases are like tactical calls. They can be programmed into settings and allow you to use them as a from address as well as receive email sent to them. An example of how we use them for our RACES/ARES group is to identify the Emergency Operation Station (EOC) as an account to send messages to, rather then addressing the message to the callsign that is assigned to the client. This allows us to use a club call for the Winlink account for these stations. The thing you have to remember is that to connect to a individual station you need to tell the P2P comm screen that you want to connect to the actual callsign. Hope that clears it up a bit more... There is really nothing "automatic" about manually uploading to LOTW from the QSO manager. I shouldn't have to go there and sort through what QSOs need to be uploaded. I seldom exit LOG4OM, but when I try the "Automatic upload on application close" option, the program freezes and the upload never occurs.
