Unfortunately the message of the entire conversation was derailed by one of the speaker's strongly opinionated comments about 'anti-vaccers' and then a subsequent comment lumping this group with climate - change deniers. It appears that this panel could not apply their rhetoric to the real world.

The title appears to be contrary to the recent tradition and ethos of the Boyle lectures. Most disappointing

Too abstract! What is the relationship between science and religion?

When the Word, authority of God, first came under attack by the enemy in Genesis 3:1, the serpent, Satan, Lucifer caused our (mankind's) "Great Reset"! When mankind believes a lie: there is no longer Authority and he will experience, as did Eve, a reset of belief (faith). Because of belief in a lie religion has splintered into millions upon millions of deities. Now in that same Spirit of disobedience (confusion) God has prepared this final generation for the soon coming of AntiChrist. When heavenly Father has removed (raptured) His Bride, the True Church, heavenly Father will send strong delusion upon the world; so that great Wizard (angel of light and covering Cherub) will again occupy an entity to entrance (hypnotize deceive) the entire world into believing his lie, for he is the father of lies. So many who have refused the Gospel and Good News, that Father God our Creator has become flesh (Immanuel), as propitiation for the sins of the world. Jesus Messiah of Nazareth is the only Way, Truth, and Life. If we believe in Jesus Messiah of Nazareth, He becomes our "Great Reset" (rebirth) in the Holy Spirit and way home to the Creator! So many religions! Everyone has a religion: that person, place, or thing that has become the heart's desire and treasure where their faith, hope, and love resides and they will worship it religiously! If I have learned one vital lesson from Father God our Creator in this 72 year life span, we are born in sin (John 9: 2,3, 16: 9) with a desperately wicked heart because of our sin tainted flesh. (Jer 17: 9) But the cultivation and harvest of that evil will come from family and community, our tribe. I am so blessed having been born into and raised in a household of love and meekness (due to a my parents belief in Jesus Messiah of Nazareth and His Spiirit of beatitudes, Mat 5: 3-7) which has led me to great joy and peace on earth, in the promise of eternal life! I pray for those born and raised in a household (religion) of evil in pride: violence, hatred, racism, and bigotry which leads to eternal death and damnation. The faith and patience of the righteous in Christ Jesus will judge this evil and adulterous world as did Noah. Jesus is my Ark!!! For "as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark," (Marthew 24: 37, 38) God created all things for His pleasure (Rev 4: 11) but after the "Great Reset" of sin in "The Garden of God", Father God our Creator intervened by sending His only begotten Son as propitiation for the sin of the world; to establish His Sabbath forever and our ultimate seventh day of ResT. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His gave only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believes on Him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." (Jhn 3: 16-20) For as it is written, "It is finished"!!! (Jhn 19: 30) I pray you hear what the Spirit is telling the church of Jesus Messiah of Nazareth! Amen * * "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world" (of sin). (Jas 1: 27)

I appreciated this somewhat complex yet direct, well-resourced and fascinating presentation on the psychological subject matter of ‘attention’ & its relation to God. Dr Richard Creighton Cole LMFT SAP

Wath good can come outh of this, its a man made intention with aloth of titels. Buth God sees the hart thath is realy in relationship with Him and thath gives the holy nolidge thath we only spiritual by hart can understand. If somany religions came together to see wath we have in comon there is already a error. The ego cant understand thath Adonai Elohim downt mix with other religions only surching His Hart gives the real answers thath are deep and in the same time so beautyful if we became to understand the greatness howe He made ith and us.

Maybe I’m mistaken, but all this talk about artificial intelligence, religion, or what have you, is distracting. If the psychological emotional and spiritual evolution of humanity is going to move forward, we need to stop talking ad nauseam about all these things and focus instead on how to reach higher stages of consciousness.

One wonders if the Jesus of 2000 years ago would have been excepted today, doubtful?...he would have been as damning of the corrupt politics of today, the secrecy and corruption of the church and all religions, the biased and corruption especially of judicial and financial systems worldwide...all stand guilty before him...

It was certainly a great lecture by a great scientist, followed by an equally profound response from an eminent religious leader and philosopher. I found it somewhat amusing that -- being a non-religious American soft-matter physicist -- my thoughts ran much closer to those of Archbishop Lord Williams than to those of Professor McLeish. The scientific enterprise as it exists today is largely complementary to the religious one, and it (the scientific enterprise) allows inclusivity, uniting Christians, Jews, Muslims, agnostics, atheists, and people with other religious beliefs in one big tent. This has been remarkably successful from the standpoint of our development of predictive models of natural phenomena and the growth of scientific community as a global "brotherhood and sisterhood". When Professor McLeish talks about the four "wrong turns", my question is "Wrong in what sense?" Returning to the medieval "natural philosophy" model may or may not improve the image of science among some conservative Christian intellectuals, but probably will not help with the broader society (which is increasingly non-religious anyway). On the other hand, de-emphasizing scientific method, model development, mathematics, and -- yes -- objectivity could lead to strains within the scientific community itself. The policing of science to exclude pseudo-scientists would become more difficult if everyone's imagination is considered equally valid and objective criteria are thrown out the window. I know that Prof. McLeish does not mean to encourage this, but I wish that the lecture made a stronger point that once imagination played its crucial role in formulating a hypothesis, the scientific method must take over and "objectively" test it. My imagination can suggest many things about polymers -- some of them will turn out to be true and some will turn out to be false.
