A little crazy to hear higher quality versions of the demos but it's definitely very welcome. This one in particular is quite underrated (mainly due to usually being misattributed to Caves of Altamira for whatever reason).
@gehegedrei6 күн бұрын
Yes. THAT attribution baffles me also. Never found out, what THAT presumed connection is about. But this really is a gem of a song.

not sure underrated is the word I'd use

Buttery smooth drum groove throughout. Two very nice drum fills at 11:54 to 12:03.

Sounds pre-Larry Carlton's parts. He took the track to a different level as he later would on many other tracks.

My pals and I were in the front row, right in front of Skunk, stage right for this show. He walked up to the mic and said, "Here's one for all you little kiddies," before playing Reelin' in the Years. Whoever filmed this was to our left just a bit. Tickets were two bucks. Those were the days.

This is unintentionally one of the funniest things I’ve heard - Steely Dan performing a seemingly sincere song singing the virtues of MALT LIQUOR. I can’t imagine how much they hated this! 🤣
@JohnBock-nq9lr15 күн бұрын
Schlitz Beer per se wasn't malt liquor; they had a second Schlitz Beer though that was... can't recall the name; the traditional Schlitz however was not....

So much character in these songs. Awesome to hear them in their infancy. Already gem-like and robust. Genius showing through from every angle.

For fun and speculation I think the song Running Child could have been sold on as a pop hit circa their pre SD period. I could easily imagine that on American pop radio around late 1960s. I'm thinking Brill building? Im probably showing my ignorance here😮

I absolutely LOVE this downmix from Quad! Great job! Takes me back many decades ago when I first heard this in Quad vinyl in demonstration room within a Montgomery Ward Department store, sitting in a chair and having those giant, wide tower speakers surround me. Better days.
