Just started last week! I tried to learn with app but it didn't work for me and also try with KZfaq that didn't work too. Yesterday i bought the 2 alfred adult book lesson and for me its better to follow a book don't know why. And seeing you progress so well at 30 in this video it's motivating me a lot because im 33! Very good progress my friend hope you still play because you are very good 🙂

Great progress! One tip: you are sitting too close to the piano. You'll have less tension and find it easier to play across the entire keyboard if you move your seat back.

Thank you for ur channel. I studied music for 19 years.. but stopped! Buried it deep down.. all down to parental expectations, limiting beliefs and some critical judges including my inner critic! You are inspiring me to return to a passion of mine which I have buried for longer than I played! Thank you for your courage to play. I suffered from performance anxiety.. you appear so confident.. any tips are welcome.. Thank you again.. 🙏✨️

Less Piano! Lost interest in the Grades after taking G5. Started running a lot (75+ miles per week) and just playing casually. I guess it's a case of how we measure progress 😇

@@mattsoutham I see okay! I wanna be able to play piano too also did u skip grades I heard u can skip 1-4 and it’s easy and grade 5 and 8 is compulsory also(boring) but the most important I was just wondering if you could play pop songs as well since u have some fundamentals already if so can u pls play a few pop songs on KZfaq I’d like to watch it and I’m sure u will gain a few viewers and followers too . Also iv subscribed already :)

@@mattsoutham nice one man. Keep it up - sounding amazing! And your patience has been great to see. No rush to play super virtuoso pieces - you’ve taken your time and layed the proper foundations to a solid technique. You should be proud of yourself.

Uggggh! That last chord on Arabesque has been my nightmare for a while. I played this piece at a parents recital. Even though KI botched it every time, in every single practice, I hit it on the concert day. So I felt that!

@@dodger1151 Love to hear it and congratulations on passing grade 1! Enjoy the journey. It's a slow process! My advice is keep doing the basics like scales, a little theory and sight reading. It really helps. And you'll notice it if you DON'T!

Thanks so much for sharing your journey, including the hesitations and small mistakes - it's great to see a full picture of your learning curve as there are so many fakes on YT. It is inspiring to see what you've achieved and I can imagine how satisfying it was to finally play Your Song, the tune that inspired your mission. It is a beautiful song and that JL ad really hit the right note, in every way. (Although my all time favourite was the Penguin advert - genius!) I noticed in the first year you used Alfred's book 1 - I have just started to learn using that book, on a Casio 61 key keyboard. I have no previous musical training but the book is very easy to work through and I managed to play Jingle Bells today (day 3) - it felt like quite an achievement. 🙂 I was worried that at my age (62) I would struggle to learn to read music, but I am making steady progress and really enjoying this new hobby, it is so absorbing. I intend to work through the whole book then perhaps I will find a teacher and buy an actual piano, but at this stage the 61 keys are more than enough for me. I noticed you have a guitar - were you already able to read music before you started to learn the piano? If so, that must have been an advantage, but anyway your progress is impressive.

My issue that I didn't buy it yet, it's because, even set at the heaviest touch, us lighter than most acoustic grand pianos, so you might have problems to play advanced classical music diploma on acoustic grand pianos if you study it on this CASIO GP510

This is the first credible video of a year's progress. Congratulations. For progress and honesty. By the way, I found the first day immensely funny, where the piano is almost at neck height and the air of satisfaction at the end of the melody. Very good.

Just being curious, do pianists just remember the notes of the songs after practicing them?
@mattsoutham9 ай бұрын
Hey, it's probably more like a performer remembering their lines/performance in a show. They don't remember all the words, so to speak, but they remember how to perform their part. Including all the details. Does that make sense?
@Ceciliahuyenvy9 ай бұрын
@@mattsoutham so when you practice playing the piano (not for performance), do you look at the music sheets or do you try to remember the notes, too? By the way, your videos really give me courage to start learning piano. I’m 33 years old and have always wanted to learn. But due to the fact that I am an international student who doesn’t have a fixed living place, I’ve always hesitated. Now I plan on buying a small keyboard. I did some research and come across the 61-key Yamaha Piaggero NP 12. Would you think it’s a good one to begin with?
