If the flail mower isn't doing it, you are using the wrong hammers. Add a oil cooler for the hydros.

I do not know if you can change that head but I have thought about building one for years and if I did I would use a pivot pro head. look them up they go on a normal string trimmer and they have 4 little swivels one on each side. A single piece of string doubles and gives you up to 8 lines. If the trimer is under powered you only use two sides. I have used them for years on a trimer an the string last for ever because when you get up real close to what you are trimming the line can pivot and not bend. So they do not break the line near as much as a normal trimmer. even against chain link fence they last 10 times longer or more. I do not have a huge huge area I mow but I have several things to trim around and I normally change my string every two to three cuts. Amazon sells them they are a universal head that will fit most string trimmers. I have lots of experience in metal fab so I was just going to buy a dewalt cordless 20 volt with the motor on the head and modify and mount the battery pack under the seat of my husqvarna zero. But No matter what I do if I buy or build I would want the pivot pro trimmer head. You will get 10 times the life and the strings are fixed not bump and go.

Mower blades dont get dull typically just from cutting GRASS, its ALWAYS rocks or sticks etc., that cause mower blades to lose their edge to begin with, so someone using that theory to sell u a "self shaharpening" blade, saw u coming a mile away and has ocean front property in AZ., to sell ya. Thats just plain idiocy. C'mon, think about it.

You can use a wider flail mower then a rotary cutter, and a flail Does a significantly better job then a rotary cutting with Y blades on it

I have 6.5 acres and a few cows keep it mowed and fertilized for the most part. I shred 2 times a year with an undersized 5’ Ford shredder that is old old. Would like to get a 6’ since that’s width of tractor but cost doesn’t add up for two cuttings a year. I’m wondering if the HST is cause if heat issue as they’re more setup for stop and goes than constant run? I have gear drive but no temp on hydro so have no clue if it runs cooler or not with hydro.

John Deere compacts are overpriced and under performance. The Fel capacity on JD is no where close to the Korean brands, Mahindra or Massey. I dont see a bright future for JD's compact line. I can by a 48 hp TYM tractor with five major implements for less loney than a 4044 r TYM gives you all the nice features where as JD nickle and dimes you for the same features.

Tim, while I agree that larger property mowing would not be real feasible with a sub compact, I would caution folks on how big of a tractor/cutter they should purchase. If they go to a large frame tractor (often the case with the 99-100hp tractor, they could end up needing a smaller tractor to do trim work under and around trees or other objects in many properties. Personally, I would never take a fail mower to a property that I did not know or a property I knew had debris and or rocks on it.

I just finished changing both fuel filters on my 2014 1025R. The fuel petcock on mine turns with much more difficultly. In fact, I had to come back in and watch you turn it off to be sure that I wasn't trying to turn it in the wrong direction. I'll do the engine oil change (from your youtube tutorial) next - after the mechanic finishes putting my transmission back together. Hint: Never hit a big rock that's sticking up under the snow with a front mounted snow blower.

My LS tractor the seat is like sitting on plywood and I really don't have leg room. I bought a mower from tsc and they don't really have instructions except for cutting the driveshaft. I bought a 5 footer but still not as wide as the back tires, so i kinda overlap when mowing and I find it better to remove the bucket. It's over priced for what it is and i probably wouldn't buy another one like it. The lower pins i had to loctite them to keep the nuts tight. I never had that happen before. I like that seat you have, it's like the one on my zero turn and it doesn't work anymore, maybe from the salt air in Florida. This mower does cut well, just this year the grass and weeds were taller than the tractor in spots.

We use the same brush hogs in Bulgaria but with chains not blades it does the job better and you don't worry for stumps and rocks the chain bounces off and loses momentum and no damage is done to the reductor and PTO or the brush hog it self.

Tim. Your video was spot on. I spent 7 hour the other day to mow 6 acres of thistle. Much bigger tractor 60 HP Kubota, with 6 ft brush hog, but new air ride seat. The issue is how rough my field is. Much rougher than yours with terraces carved into the hillside years ago. I can't do more than 5-6 hours a day, in low gear, without morphine at end of for my surgically repaired back. :-) I would like a much bigger bat wing but don't have the rear hydraulics, yet. So dollars for batwing ($$$), dollars for hydraulics ($$), or just mow a few acres every week and rely on drugs to recover. As a hobby farmer it looks like the third option for now.

I have an 5 ft old king cutter I use on bx. I really think a 4ft is just too small for a good cut quality and with a basic rotary cutter you really need to be going under 5mph to leave a good cut and you are going too fast imo. If I did this day in and day out I'd run a 72 on normal grass because of the overlap with a 23hp tractor. It would have to be an open back rotary cutting like this mower is to work. No way 23hp would be enough for a recirculating cutter.

I gotta say I prefer the cut quality of a flail mower.... even with hammer blades I can cut my lawn. Then I can take it out into the forest and it is more nimble around trees etc. That being said I don't have a rough cut mower to compare....

Would be interesting to mow this property with every one of your tractors and implements as part of a series then do a summary episode comparing them all. Include in this a zero-turn if you think it can mow this property without tearing it up. You could include subjective elements like sub-compact vs compact vs utility comfort to mow the property. Part of that will be features of the tractor but also wheelbase, width and weight should benefit larger tractors. Just some thoughts. Thank you

Nice work Tim. I have a fairly long shared gravel driveway that I use a land plane on. The problem I'm having is that the material comes off the rear blade in clumps. This leaves a washboard type surface. How do you do a final smoothing to get rid of those?
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim Күн бұрын
Yes, it comes off in clumps when wet. Does it still come off in clumps when drier? I find that it works well when dry. One approach to final smoothing is to use a harrow. americanharrow.com has a good 3 point mount one. Use code ttwt for 5% off.

Would using slave pins in the rotor help you align the tracks/? Buy bolts to match the threads in the wheel. cut the heads off and then thread in the all thread into the wheel to let the track or wheel align and rest so you can thread in the bolts. Might help.
